Radio evangelist Harold Camping said in a special broadcast Monday night on his radio program Open Forum that his predicted May 21, 2011 Rapture was “an invisible judgment day“ that he has come to understand as a spiritual, rather than physical event.
“We had all of our dates correct,” Camping insisted, clarifying that he now understands that Christ’s May 21 arrival was “a spiritual coming” ushering in the last five months before the final judgment and destruction.
In an hour and a half broadcast, Camping walked listeners through his numerological timeline, insisting that his teaching has not changed and that the world will still end on October 21, 2011.
“It wont be spiritual on October 21st,” Camping said, adding, “the world is going to be destroyed all together, but it will be very quick.”

Sigh. I have an idea that his family would love to do the “drag him offstage” thing, but have long since given up. He reads scripture like one would read tea leaves in the bottom of a cup. A sorry end state for somebody I knew many years ago as a really nice guy.

The disturbing thing is that some people put so much faith in what this guy preached, they spent their life savings. I can’t get over that man in NY that was astounded that the ‘end’ didn’t happen. He spent his life savings to run ads to ‘warn’ others. Just tragic and heartbreaking.
If Camping is so convinced of his newest prediction, then he should liquidate all his assets & use the money to feed, clothe, shelter, & minister to the poor until the end. I notice he DID NOT do this prior to his 2 previous predictions of doom.
I’ll bet the farm that on Oct. 22, Camping will have even more wealth accumulated, scammed (stolen) from ignorant & vulnerable Christians.

Does Camping think so little of Jesus that he believes he’s been given special insight that even the Son of God wasn’t given? Does he believe that his enlightened study of the Word— God’s Word —and his analysis of supposedly relevant numbers isn’t something that is readily available to Jesus in the blink of an eye?
If Jesus doesn’t know it, it’s unknowable— especially by us— and there’s a specific purpose behind that.
This man is fatally foolish, and has unmitigated gall.
I’d be okay with that. I’m so tired of everyone and everything.

BTW, this book was written in 1881; you wouldn't believe how applicable and accurate it is!

Let the pages of The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life fill you with the same burning words of love, with the same ardent desire to know God above all created things, that St. Thérèse gained from them. Let them also enrich your understanding of certain teachings of the Faith that can often seem so mysterious, even frightening:

The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life is an invaluable aid to inculcating in your spirit that heavenly orientation, without which true human happiness cannot be found—in this world or the next.
Didn’t the Jehova Witnesses also predict earlier end-dates and then keep setting them later?
