Harold Camping says May 21, 2011 was ‘invisible judgment day,’ world will end October 21, 2011

Radio evangelist Harold Camping said in a special broadcast Monday night on his radio program Open Forum that his predicted May 21, 2011 Rapture was “an invisible judgment day“ that he has come to understand as a spiritual, rather than physical event.

“We had all of our dates correct,” Camping insisted, clarifying that he now understands that Christ’s May 21 arrival was “a spiritual coming” ushering in the last five months before the final judgment and destruction.

In an hour and a half broadcast, Camping walked listeners through his numerological timeline, insisting that his teaching has not changed and that the world will still end on October 21, 2011.

“It wont be spiritual on October 21st,” Camping said, adding, “the world is going to be destroyed all together, but it will be very quick.”

Thats like the mormons

Jesus was supposed to come back about 1890

Joey Smith said so in 1835...

“President Smith then stated ... it was the will of God that those who went to Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh—even fifty-six years should wind up the scene.”

(History of the (Mormon) Church, volume 2, page 182)

And the Russellites, after a number of false calls, claimed their last one was correct and that Jesus did return, but did so "spiritually" and that's why no one saw it.

Sigh. I have an idea that his family would love to do the “drag him offstage” thing, but have long since given up. He reads scripture like one would read tea leaves in the bottom of a cup. A sorry end state for somebody I knew many years ago as a really nice guy.

Isn't that every day?

The disturbing thing is that some people put so much faith in what this guy preached, they spent their life savings. I can’t get over that man in NY that was astounded that the ‘end’ didn’t happen. He spent his life savings to run ads to ‘warn’ others. Just tragic and heartbreaking.

If Camping is so convinced of his newest prediction, then he should liquidate all his assets & use the money to feed, clothe, shelter, & minister to the poor until the end. I notice he DID NOT do this prior to his 2 previous predictions of doom.

I’ll bet the farm that on Oct. 22, Camping will have even more wealth accumulated, scammed (stolen) from ignorant & vulnerable Christians.

There is a particularly searing place in hell ...

Does Camping think so little of Jesus that he believes he’s been given special insight that even the Son of God wasn’t given? Does he believe that his enlightened study of the Word— God’s Word —and his analysis of supposedly relevant numbers isn’t something that is readily available to Jesus in the blink of an eye?

If Jesus doesn’t know it, it’s unknowable— especially by us— and there’s a specific purpose behind that.

This man is fatally foolish, and has unmitigated gall.

I’d be okay with that. I’m so tired of everyone and everything.

Yes! It's named after Napolean's favorite book. In fact it is believed that Napolean carried this book in his tunic on his chest over his heart. Whenever he is pictured he is shown with his hand over his heart ans touching the book,

. The Book is Goethe's " the Sorrows of Young Werther."

Cool...won’t have to by the wife a birthday present

If she finds that out beforehand, your world may end quicker. ;-)

Camping needs to get the facts by reading this book.

I am currently reading this book. A much different story than Camping's

BTW, this book was written in 1881; you wouldn't believe how applicable and accurate it is!

The End of the Present World

Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life!"
— St. Thérèse of Lisieux

In the late nineteenth century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life’s mean material affairs—and toward the next life’s glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.

When Father Arminjon’s conferences were later published in a book, many others were able to reap the same benefit—including fourteen-year-old Thérèse Martin, then on the cusp of entering the Carmelite convent in Lisieux. Reading it, she says, “plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth.” Young Thérèse, filled with a sense of “what God reserves for those who love him, and seeing that the eternal rewards had no proportion to the light sacrifices of life,” copied out numerous passages and memorized them, “repeating unceasingly the words of love burning in my heart.”

Now the very book that so inspired the Little Flower is available for the first time in English.

Let the pages of The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life fill you with the same burning words of love, with the same ardent desire to know God above all created things, that St. Thérèse gained from them. Let them also enrich your understanding of certain teachings of the Faith that can often seem so mysterious, even frightening:

  • The signs that will precede the world’s end
  • The coming of the Antichrist, and how to recognize him
  • The Judgment and where it may send us: heaven, hell, and purgatory
  • Biblical end-times prophecy: how to read it and not be deceived

Jesus commands us to be ever-watchful for his return, and ever-mindful that we have no lasting city on earth. The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life is an invaluable aid to inculcating in your spirit that heavenly orientation, without which true human happiness cannot be found—in this world or the next.

Didn’t the Jehova Witnesses also predict earlier end-dates and then keep setting them later?

His pride is astounding. He's now been proven to be wrong TWICE, and yet he still goes on about how he's right. He can't even apologize to all the people he duped. If his followers still believe him after this, then they need to get their heads examined. Poor mindless dupes.

I can see it now on 10/22. "But...but...it really was the end of the world yesterday, because Camping said so."

Even a more interesting read.

A couple of things — lots about the anti-Christ

At the last judgment everyone will be gathered together (all the people of the earth of all time) in the Valley of Josaphat. (Probably above it.)

Perpetual light in heaven — God is light, no need for sun or moon.

Just thtree little tidbits.

Don’t forget the William Miller, Martin Luther, Hong Xiuquan (Taiping rebellion).

The hallmark of heretics. It almost commands some respect to Jean Calvin for NOT claiming a date of the end of the world.
