The Occult & Restoration Story

...Where did the word "Mormon" come from? Have you assumed that it came from the Book of Mormon?

Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible has a list of "Infernal Names." Guess what one of them is? "Mormo." Mormo is the god of the ghouls, an evil being obsessed with the dead. What would the names of his followers be? "Mormons?"

Is this just a coincidence?

"In Chinese, "Mormon" means "gates of hell." That's why the Mormon missionaries have problems in Hong Kong, for instance. They have to avoid using the word "Mormon" in trying to convert the Chinese."

Is this really just a coincidence? Mormons (LDS) are obsessed with genealogies, Temple rites and rituals for the dead. They believe the dead can visit the living, and that the dead can convert to Mormonism while in their grave!

...Do you know that Joseph Smith was reported to have said:

"Hell is by no means the place this world of fools suppose it to be, but on the contrary, it is quite an agreeable place..." (1)

In April of 1844, Joseph Smith spoke before 20,000 of his followers, and said:

"...and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves...the same as all Gods have done before you...from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings...How consoling to...know that although the earthly tabernacle is laid down and dissolved, they shall rise again, to dwell in everlasting burnings...[as] a God and ascend the throne of eternal power the same as those who have gone before." (2)

SNIP

One thing is for sure, when the early history of the Mormons played out, the god of the ghouls with the obsession of the dead was able to get his fill.

The only Satanists there are out there are lonely dorks like LaVey who want to piss off their mommies.

When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

And, like a GOOD Mormon, the True Believers have even copied Joeseph's manner of speeech:

Joseph Smith's first stands today as the greatest event in world history since the birth, ministry, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Is anyone else saying the Mormo stuff besides Lewis? I mean, there’s some pretty wild stuff on his website.

Apparently there was a newspaper article that may/may not have been written by J. Smith in 1843 discounting the Mormo connection, so I reckon it has been around for a while.

Right, and why would they be a mixture of several languages? It’d be like writing German, French, Norwegian and Swedish all on one paper and trying to make sense of it.

I believe "Mormon" was a Joseph Smith, Jr.-ism.

In 1843 he claimed that "Mormon" was part English, part Egyptian, and that "mon" was the Egyptian word for "good." Therefore, "Mormon" meant "more good" according to Smith. I get this from Times and Seasons, 4:194 and Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 299–300.

I offer this explanation for historical purposes only and not for any theological purpose.

It’s nothing personal. I don’t think most religious beliefs are correct, but that doesn’t mean I think it’s right to toss around words like “Satanist” and “cult” unless the shoe fits. And it only extremely rarely fits in either instance. That whole “must-be-Satanist-if-they-disagree-with-me” vibe is not my own.

Now, I can’t say I’m somehow immune to irrational bias against those of some religions, in particular the more autocratic ones. I wouldn’t be comfortable with electing a Mormon or Bahaist for the same reason I wouldn’t be comfortable with a Catholic, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t vote for a member of either church if I found them trustworthy and agreed with their politics. And I grew up Catholic and personally have found nothing to dislike about any Mormon person I’ve ever met. Seriously, every Mormon I’ve met has been a nice person. I can’t say that for any other religion. Dunno how that’s worked out.

“You don’t get out much; do you.”

Maybe not much in Utah. But I got out plenty in Mesa, which has the second highest proportion or numbers (I forget which) of LDS members in any metro area of the U.S. outside of Utah. And my experience with Mormons is not just widespread, it’s global, having met members of that faith in Guam, Korea, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. It’s not that they’re necessarily representative of all members of that sect. There are certainly some jackasses in every church. I’m just saying that, even if I think their religious beliefs are a bunch of malarkey, my experience with their believers has been a good one. I’ve had a similar, if less broad, experience with Bahaists, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be converting any time soon.

I'll bet you could say this about EVERY religion you've come across.

Nope, I’ve met some real jackass Korean Presbyterians. And I have had the opportunity to meet a few Wiccans, and they are a bunch of arrogant dweebs. You would think they wouldn’t be both, but they are.
