LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy — For the second time in a week, Pope Benedict XVI has corrected what he says are erroneous interpretations of the Second Vatican Council, reasserting the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church and saying other Christian communities were either defective or not true churches.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said it was issuing the new document on ecumenism because some contemporary theological interpretations of Vatican II's ecumenical intent had been "erroneous or ambiguous" and had prompted confusion and doubt.

The new document -- formulated as five questions and answers -- restates key sections of a 2000 text the pope wrote when he was prefect of the congregation, "Dominus Iesus," which riled Protestant, Lutheran and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation."

Issued by the dept. of the inquisition

Well, if the leader (I refuse to call him “Pope,” which means “Father” - and Jesus said to call no man your father) of catholicism says so, it must be true.

Christ is the Head of the True Church:

Colossians 1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Any believer that has the faith of Christ is saved eternally from the precise moment of salvation unto eternal life. God knows His Church which includes all the churches of the saints:

I Corinthians 14:33: For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

God and Paul calls every faithful believer a saint:

Ephesians 1:1: Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 1:15: Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints

Ephesians 2:19: Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God

Ephesians 4:12: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

Romans 8:31: What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:32: He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:33: Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
Romans 8:34: Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Romans 8:35: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Romans 8:36: As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Romans 8:37: Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Romans 8:38: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Romans 8:39: Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Rome cannot separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, those words of the Pope are empty in the eyes of God that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Non-Catholics who employ logic should not feel offended by these comments. It is not possible for there to be more than one church professing true doctrine if the other churches profess conflicting doctrines. There is, at most, only one doctrine that can be true. Am I missing something?

Of course, a non-Catholic could argue that only his church professes the true doctrine. Such a person could hardly feel offended by those who say the same thing about the Catholic church.

Saved by grace through faith. And no amount of man-made works or rituals can do that.

God the Father and Christ Jesus are equal with Scripture for Christ is the WORD of God and yes, God the Father and Christ The WORD have absolute authority over any man or leader on earth.

How dare you elevate a man or leader to be equal and/or above God the Father and Christ The WORD.

We true believers shall pray for your eternal salvation.

Get angry at Fox News, not Pope Benedict. He said they were “EITHER” not true churches, or defective.

Yes, the Pope believes that there are defects in Protestant churches. How could anyone be surprised that? Isn’t that like finding out that bears sh—, uh, don’t use latrines in the woods? If the Pope were to discover that Protestant churches WERE NOT defective, why not become Protestant?

From your words, which God listens to on this post, it is obvious that you prefer to follow the leader of catholicism, rather than God and Christ the WORD of God.

Christ was speaking to the Jews in that passage. Not to us.

Let’s see....Idolatry,Worshipping man chosen “saints”, Mary, Papal infallibility, Priestly intercession/Indulgences, Rosary, Purgatory, “Tradition” superseding/supplanting the Bible, Baptism (sprinkling as opposed to immersion, infants as opposed to those who are capable of hearing and knowing the truth.)

Sound a lot like a Religion of manmade traditions and NOT the one true church. Methinks those in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones.

"PoPo"..bwhahahaha!! I LIKE it!

Now, was this one of his "infallible" decrees or just a plain "fallible" opinion? I guess it depends on whether he's wearing his pointy hat and red slippers when he's offering his "wisdom" of God.

What is infallibility but opinion with red pradas?

Which begs the question, why do they accept all Orthodox/Protestant baptisms but not Mormon ones for conversion?

IIRC, JPII called Protestants ‘separated brethren’ and clarified that Mormons were not. I think Ansel12 or diogenesis has the quote by John Paul II on Mormonism.
