Updated: *153* Bishops (Over 80% of Dioceses) Have Spoken Out Against Obama/HHS Mandate

In the past I’ve compiled a list of all the bishops speaking out on a particular controversial issue (for instance, over Notre Dame’s invitation to President Obama) — here are the bishops who have spoken out against the Obama/HHS mandate.

[See my ongoing coverage of Obama/HHS's war against religious liberty herehere, here and most recently here. I'm also tweeting more updates @AmericanPapist.]

If I have missed anyone please let me know in the comments! And please double-check that your bishop really is not there before posting. The list is not in any particular order at this point.

Items in bold mean the statement was read at all diocesan Masses or included in all parish bulletins on Sunday:

SPECIAL MENTION: “The Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in North America just issued a formal statement of protest against the HHS mandate in which the Assembly, representing all 53 Orthodox bishops in North America, references their complete agreement with the statements of the USCCB.”

THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me build and correct this list.

NOTE: If you would like a statement by an Eastern Rite bishop to be included please send me the link/document or post it in the comments! Thank you. I’m trying to provide documentation for all the bishops listed and Eastern Rite bishops have been harder for me to track down. Thank you for understanding!

UPDATE: Of the 183 dioceses (by my count) in the U.S. who have a bishop currently serving as its head, 155 of them have issued statements. So over 80% of bishops who head dioceses have spoken out against the Obama/HHS mandate.

End of discussion.

Do you think this will be struck down by the Supreme Court of the United States?

I do.

The “Catholics” should have thought about that when they overwhelmingly supported Obamacare and illegal aliens getting free obamacare when they crossed the border!

Now that the cats out of the bag, they want to act like they don't support it.

50 percent of Catholics (Catholics make up about 22 percent of the U.S. population.) approve of his presidency, down from 67 percent in his first six months in office.
DOWN 17 POINTS

among non-Catholic Christians, who make up 55 percent of the U.S. population, had fallen from 58 percent to 43 percent.
DOWN 15 POINTS

Mormon respondents, who represent about two percent of U.S. adults, fell from 43 percent to 26 percent
DOWN 17 POINTS

About 78 percent of Muslim respondents approved of the Obama presidency, down eight percentage points from when the question was first asked.  (86)
DOWN 8 POINTS

atheists, agnostics, and members of other non-Christian religions, who comprise about 13 percent of the U.S. population -- While about 75 percent of these respondents approved of President Obama at the start of his term, their approval declined to about 64 percent.
DOWN 11 POINTS

Jews were the religious group third likeliest to approve of President Obama, giving him 61 percent approval. This too is a decline: in January-June 2009, their approval rating of the president was 77 percent.
DOWN 16 POINTS

Overall, 48 percent of Americans approve of President Obama’s job, down from 63 percent in the first months of his presidency. Gallup claims that its survey of over 276,000 adults claims an overall margin of error of plus or minus one percent.
DOWN 15 POINTS

Perhaps you were not aware of the support Obama got from many denominations -- maybe even yours. Check the facts first, please.

Catholics hear anti-Obama letter in church (Some idiots wanted "change" so they got it)
Has Obama Lost the Catholic Left?

Obama won the overall religious vote, 52 percent to 46 percent, reversing President George W. Bush’s 51 percent to 48 percent “values voter” victory over Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry in 2004. Obama also won the Catholic vote, persuaded young evangelical voters to choose him and began to squeeze shut the so-called “God gap” yawning between religious Democrats and Republicans during the Bush era.

How will the roughly 9.1 million evangelical Christians who voted for Obama vote in the next election? Will Obama's actions compel the 31.2 million evangelicals who didn't vote in the 2008 election to vote next time?

Obama Receives 77% of Jewish Vote-- More Than Kerry
White US Catholics move toward GOP, Hispanic Catholics toward Democrats
Among Catholics, Obama job approval rating decreases to 50 percent

80% oppose it.

Well that explains why the Democrats created Catholics for ObamaCare or whatever and the new meme from Pelosi that Catholics favor the mandates.

It’s an age old tactic, who can we fool today?

The democrat fascist party will want the Catholic Justices to recuse themselves when it gets to the SC. While they don't want their recent pick to recuse because she worked on and for the Obamacare law she'll be ruling on, they will see religion as a reason for them to recuse.

JMHO

Without including what percentage of the voting public each group constitutes that's a pretty worthless chart, really. In addition, it has no breakdown of what percentage of each group didn't vote in each election.

For example, the vast majority of Black folks count themselves as Fundamentalist Protestants according to the categories included in this chart yet the chart doesn't break out "White Evangelicals" v all Evangelicals. Just sayin'

Wow, Bishop Malooly of Wilmington, DE is on the list! This is Biden area and Malooly has refused confrontation with Biden and his heresies - until now. Let’s see if he has the cojones to confront and condemn Biden now.

However, I’m still waiting for him to lift the ban from 1976 on me.
