The effort to erase any public sign of Christianity in American took yet another step forward recently with the announcement that the city of Steubenville, Ohio is removing the image of the Franciscan University of Steubenville’s chapel from the official city logo.

Here’s a pic of the offending city logo which was unveiled just last year:

The city of Steubenville, faced with the threat of an expensive lawsuit from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., a Madison, Wisconsin-based atheist group, decided to drop the image of the chapel and the cross. They will be asking an artist to create a new logo in the near future.

Law Director S. Gary Repella told The Herald Star, “We were contacted in May by the Freedom from Religion Foundation Inc. in Madison, Wis., who said one of our citizens had complained about the city logo. During the past several months the foundation sent me their research and past case law regarding religious symbols. I researched current case law and found a lot of case laws that do not allow religious symbols in government symbols.”

Franciscan University reacted to the announcement with the following statement from Michael Hernon, vice president of Advancement:...........

It’s not just Christianity that they want to delete, it’s God. Woe be unto us when they succeed. But He will have the last laugh...........

Somebody needs to initiate a class action suit against “Freedom from Religion” or whatever they’re called.

Maybe we can use WePay.com to raise the funds.

Somebody just has to stand up to these people and tell them to FOAD. They will keep bullying otherwise. I learned that back in the 1970’s when I was bullied, why won’t these people stand up to them?

Can’t cities just ignore these lawsuits? Send the Athe-Nazis a nice note, “Thank you for reaching out to us, but we like the logo we have. Visit us any time.” And then do nothing else.

What would happen?

They must have figured they would lose the lawsuit.

How long has that been the city symbol?
Will they remove the citizen-soldier and gun, too?

Perhaps someone will sue them to remove the giant masonic dividers from the middle of the logo.

Law Director S. Gary Repella told The Herald Star, "...I researched current case law and found a lot of case laws that do not allow religious symbols in government symbols.”

I'm underwhelmed by the competence of the "Law Director." Is he totally cut off from current events, such that he doesn't know that the Freedom From Religion people are targeting every Christian representation with any connection to any level of government? Why would he not have considered, in advance, the possibility of this lawsuit, and either decided not to include the university chapel, OR decided in advance to tell the professional aggrieved to pound sand?

I think Mr. Repella owes the city a refund of his salary.

If we on the Right are the evil rich, how come we don’t have the financial resources to battle the ongoing, destructive infestation of predatory lawyer scum that is eroding EVERY aspect of our society?

The Franciscan University of Steubenville’s presence gave an aura of class to an otherwise impoverished and decaying small city. Stupidville was chiefly known as the hometown of the now deceased crooner Dean Martin. Now it wants to be known for nothing.

I have long believed that there are people in charge that want to make this type of change but know they would bring down a world of hurt on them self if they do.

So they work in collusion with outsiders to threaten to sue the organization to provide cover, and they quick agree to the changes before anyone is aware of what is happening and then present a “ Fait accompli

Is it true, I don’t know, but it seems a threat to sue only works for the left to get something they don’t like changed

Those are actually the things you see as you enter the city from the West Virginia side. The Fort, the Veterans Bridge, and Franciscan University.

“Somebody just has to stand up to these people and tell them to FOAD”.

Exactly. PC be Damned. This is how they have been getting away with it for so long. A Self Appointed Smoking Nazi stood before me, and the cute Blonde I was with at an OUTDOOR pool in Ann Arbor, Mi. this last weekend, and started spouting, Al Gore, second hand smoke, asptma, blah, blah, blah. I let here go for about 20 seconds, before I rudley cut her off, and stated I do not argue with, Nazi's, Democrats, and, or Fools. I explained that there was no smoking policy that forbid smoking at the pool.Thems the facts ma'am. You now have two choices. You can call the Cop's, or move along, because this conversation is now over. Goodbye. I was quite surprised, that in all places like Ann Arbor, many people thanked me for standing up to this busy body. Our side needs to learn to start pushing back. Peace MCB

The problem is, with erasing God, people are erasing their own history.

Kids today have no idea on how religion shaped their world because every mention is removed from their textbooks and lives.

I was reading on the Donner party the other day. On the PBS site, which is considered an excellent resource, they have the many excerpts from the actual diary of one of the settlers. I went to check on the “edited” parts - it seems every other sentence is a prayer to God. None of those parts seem to have gotten into any of the quotes tho - you think ONE prayer would have, to give the true gist?

If you want to give your kid’s history text the acid test, check the “Mayflower Compact”. Some will do pretzel twists to avoid any mention of deity, just like Obama does when he reads the Declaration, edit out the parts that are offensive to them and mention God.

I’m sure that raising uneducated kids is PART of the socialist plan, though, not an accident.

They must have figured they would lose the lawsuit.

Not even that. As a struggling former mill town, just the initial filings and court procedures might have bankrupted them.
