Father Bernard Lynch, a homosexual Catholic priest and activist known for defying Vatican teachings, has once again challenged the Roman Catholic Church by revealing that he has been married to a man for the past 14 years. Lynch also blames teachings on celibacy for the child sex abuse cases gripping the Catholic Church.

Apparently Lynch's homosexual union was tolerated as long as he quiet but with the writing of a book his having a "husband" for 14 years cannot be tolerated any longer...or can it? ,...14 years!

His activities were certainly no secret to anyone. How can anyone claim that the scandal among priests has been “cleaned up” when men like Lynch are allowed to remain.

That seems to be the point of Lynch’s latest book.

He was not forced into celibacy. He chose it. No one forces you to be an RC priest.

This whole thing turns my stomach - but the one thing I agree with him on is that celibacy teachings may be largely responsible for the rampant homosexuality and child abuse. I suspect if priests were allowed (not encouraged, but allowed) to marry, much of this might be avoided. After all, Scripture says that it’s better to marry than to burn.

Ok, I am not Catholic.
However, I do not get the “forced” into celibacy thing this guy is claiming.
No one is forced into celibacy, it is a choice freely given when you enter Catholic ministry as a priest.
You do not wish to be celibate, don’t enter the ministry, its really simple.

Whether he's correct in that view I won't guess but a priesthood that claims celibacy seems to be an attraction to homosexuals as estimates of homosexuals in the seminaries run from 30 to 50%.

Most sexual abusers are not celibate. Most sexual abusers are married. Why would celibacy make a heterosexual go after a member of the same sex and much less a child? Do you skip over the Scripture in which Jesus talks about eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven? Do you skip over the Scriptures in which Paul talks about the beauty of virginity and tells one not to take a husband or wife if one doesn’t have one because the time is short, though he does permit marriage?

Factually wrong assumptions to make.

Start with the fact that less than 5% of the Catholic Priesthood was ever involved in the sex abuse scandals.

Then, understand that almost all of the victims were MALES.

Then, understand that almost all of the victims were past the age of puberty.

It was all very wrong, and criminal. However, it was NOT the clinical definition of “pedophilia” since almost all of the victims were post-pubescent males.

Instead, this is mostly a problem of homosexual predators entering the Priesthood.

Not all homosexuals are predators, in fact, few are. Less than 5% of Priests are predators. Almost all of the offenders in these cases were homosexual predators. How does allowing Priests to get married solve that problem?

Of course, it doesn't.

No, he was not forced into the priesthood nor was he forced to be a homosexual nor is the Catholic church forced to keep him as a priest so one might ask why he is still a priest.

Wasn’t it Ann Coulter who said something like;
“Gays insist they’re born that way....unless we’re talking about the priest sex scandal! Then they blame celibacy...”

Perhaps some never had the intention of remaining celibate but are like the drunk who stays sober just long enough to get a bartender’s job.

If you follow this sick ugliness which you cannot avoid with some Freepers posting (Which is there right)about it. The idea of Married men not doing abuse is very wrong. Natural Fathers are higher than priests in abuse percentages. So are Teachers and Coaches. The whole thing is just ugly. I learned most of this by checking the sources of these type of posts. It is disgusting subject but needs to be discussed at times. May God Help these little Ones.

“so one might ask why he is still a priest.”

Indeed, that is indefensible. Once something like this is known I can not fathom why anyone would want to keep them in their clergy.

But I was reacting more to the excuses we so often hear, like someone forced them into celibacy and now they have no choice but to act homosexually, so absurd.
