Spanish youths attack Catholic school, threaten to burn priests alive

The entrance to María Auxiliadora School in Mérida, Spain.

Madrid, Spain, Oct 19, 2012 / 10:40 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A group of young people shouting, “Where are the priests? We’re going to burn them at the stake,” attacked the Mary Help of Christians Salesian School in Merida, Spain, leaving one teacher wounded.

According to the Salesian Press Office in Spain, the incident occurred at 1:20 p.m. local time on Oct. 18, when “some 100 young people entered the premises of the Mary Help of Christians Salesian School in Merida.”  Nearly 1,000 K-12 students attend the school.

“Custodial workers and some teachers at the school tried to stop the group, but 10 of them were able to gain entrance to the school building, shouting insults against the institution, pushing staff members who were in their way and attempting to disrupt the normal school day,” the Salesians said.

Principal Marco Antonio Romero told the newspaper El Mundo that the young people’s intention was to pull down the crucifixes. “More public education and less crucifixes,” they shouted.

The attackers carried flags from the Spanish Civil War, shouted insults at the teachers and professors and tried to steal several laptop computers from classrooms, the newspaper reported.

The red, yellow and dark purple flags were the same ones used by the Republican faction, left-wing radicals and anarchists during Spain’s bloody, anti-clerical conflict that led to the deaths of thousands of priest, seminarians, religious and laypeople between 1936 and 1939.

During the attack on the school, one teacher suffered minor wounds while trying to keep the young people from entering her classroom.

The Salesians said steps will be taken to prevent any kind of such attacks in the future and that they will be filing a lawsuit against the assailants. “This kind of conduct cannot be allowed in a constitutional state.”

Wonder if they’d mind an “armed guard” working for free?

Very nearly the same thing, just a different degenerate at the heart of the political movement ... that’s right, I said it: mo ham head founded a political movement and called it a religion.

I’ve always felt the secular, godless side was the greater threat overall.

Here's a fun fact: The "Republicans", so adored by the Left, killed more priests & nuns in the Spanish Civil War than the Inquisition did in its whole history.

get ready for another round - both in Europe and in the good ol' USA.

There has got to be a lot behind this story.

As an aside, the mention of Spanish Republicans (communists) reminds me of the novel about the Spanish Civil War, in which an American in Spain is talking with a pretty Spanish girl who asks him about his father.

She gets very interested when he tells her that his father was a higher-ranking Republican (in the US). She assumes that his father must have been a fire breathing revolutionary.

The father had been sent to prison for a few years because of the Teapot Dome scandal. So when she asks him if he was persecuted, he thinks about it for a bit, and replies, “well, yes”.

Exactly. The Left likes to pretend that the so-called Republicans were innocent and wonderful heroes. These people were Republicans only in the sense that the leaders of the People’s “Republic” of China are Republicans.

I was looking through Eric Foner’s popular textbook for U.S. History survey courses for universities. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he mentioned the Loyalists were allied with the Fascists. He merely called the other side “Republicans” and made no mention of the support they got from the Soviet Union or their violent anti-Catholicism. And we wonder why kids today have such a distorted view of history. They are being propagandized.

These people ( one or two adults and a couple of teenagers) were all members of a political party named Izquierda Unida (United Left). At least one of the adults had been involved in some leftist/anarchist demonstrations in Madrid in the spring.

Zapatero empowered these people. I’m surprised that they’re doing this now, because the government has changed. However, Rajoy (current conservative party leader) isn’t very strong, so they feel they can get away with it.

IU has refused to criticize the attackers and in fact is considering filing a complaint against the local police for having arrested the teenagers.

With this and all the lefty demonstrations going on all over Europe right now, I’d say we’re getting ready for another period of martyrdom. Some 13,000 priests, religious and active laypeople (such as catechism teachers) were killed by the left during the Spanish Civil War.

Canonize Francisco Franco who saw the Red depredations against his nation and did what a man had to and ought to do.

Dethrone the monarchy permanently this time since Juan Carlos I has proven a leftist traitor to the promises he made to Franco and since the Spaniards ought not to be required to subsidize an 8 million euro annual allowance for the leftist royal housepet. Cut the Bourbons off altogether and watch the Spanish communists make a spectacle of themselves defending royal prerogatives and the obscene subsidy.

Give Zapatero and his party leaders five days to leave Spain permanently or face the consequences.

Apparently Spain has made the grave error of joining the European Union during the misbegotten post-Franco era. Spain should declare its independence of the EU and tell it to pound sand.

May God bless and keep Spain and its priests safe from future harm. Viva Cristo Rey (the only acceptable form of monarchy)!!!
