Pray for our American Heroes and Nation

Father, as Faith reminded us yesterday, You have come exactly as You promised, to live in Your children; to be God with us. Hallelujah! We are reminded again of the faithfulness of Your promises—no matter what we see with our physical senses. How many were looking for Jesus’ coming at the time He came? And how many are looking for Your coming again?

Father, when You return, guide us so that You will find faith. Let Your Word have free course around the world so that multitudes will come into Your Kingdom before Jesus’ return!

We pray particularly for our beloved American military men and women. Send laborers with Your Word so that each one can come back to his family with Your Immanuel living inside him or her. Send them the word of faith, so they can trust You for their protection. We stand in the gap for them in the meantime believing in Your grace to keep them safe—spirit, soul and body.

God, our deep hearts’ cry is that You would heal our land. Give Your wisdom to those in authority. Protect Your children in the storms to come and, Good Shepherd, lead us beside the still waters.

We love and trust You today in Jesus’ name. Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

Which Way?

Asking directions is not my favorite thing to do. I always feel that if I stay at it long enough I’ll eventually find my way. My wife, Martie, on the other hand, is always quick to ask directions and incredulous about my unwillingness to admit that I don’t have a clue about where I’m going. In the end, she is the wiser one. She gets to her destination quickly and without angst while I end up getting lost.

Thinking that we are smart enough to navigate life on our own goes contrary to the warning of Scripture that tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Prov. 16:25). When we are at a fork in the road, we need to stop and consult the ways of the Lord, “for the ways of the Lord are right” (Hos. 14:9).

Life is a directional enterprise. It’s vitally important to know how to successfully direct our lives toward blessed and peaceful relationships, meaningful acts of love and service, a fulfilling experience with God, and a host of other vitally important destinations.

Asking God for directions isn’t just a good idea—it’s critical. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart . . . and He shall direct your paths” (Prov. 3:5-6).

Lord, I surrender my stubborn tendency to do life on
my own terms. Teach me that my “want to’s” lead to
dead-end streets and that Your wisdom will keep me
on the road to all that is good and fruitful. Amen.

Ask God for directions because He knows the way.
