Vatican Article Likens Gay Marriage to Communism
Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | 1/14/13 | Joel Connolly

The Vatican has taken multiple blasts at same-sex marriage in the last month, just as it is on the way to becoming legal in Britain and France, and as a poll by an evangelical-backed organization finds opposition in the United States on the wane.

A front-page article in L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, likens marriage equality to 20th-century communism, reports the Religion News Service, saying it is equal to “the egalitarian utopia that did so much damage during the 20th Century . . . deceiving humanity as socialism did in the past.”

The Vatican blast follows a Christmas season message of peace from Pope Benedict XVI, in which the pontiff spoke of protecting traditional marriage from “attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of unions.”

The pope spoke of “a crisis that threatens (the family in Western society) to its foundations,” condemning “a new philosophy of sexuality” which teaches that “sex is no longer a given element of nature” but a “social role to choose for ourselves.”

But marriage-equality bills are moving through the parliament in London, the assembly in Paris, and been upheld by the courts in Spain. And voters in Washington, Maryland and Maine approved same-sex marriage last November, while Minnesota voters rejected a bid — backed by the Catholic Church — to write a ban on marriage equality into the state constitution.

The statement that Jesus created the Roman Catholic Church is on its face a lie and you should know that.

I admit I didn't see where anyone claimed that Jesus created the Roman Catholic Church.

But it doesn’t even matter that Jesus did not call His church the Catholic Church. Just by its very nature, the church Jesus Christ established was a church for all who believed in Him. Thus, it became known as the ‘Catholic (Universal) Church’. The addition of the name ‘Catholic’ did not change the church that Jesus founded in any way.

Though Jesus never called His church the Catholic Church, He also never called anyone a Christian or used the word Christianity. The name ‘Christian’ was given to those who believed in Jesus Christ, but not by Jesus, and not until sometime after His death; just as the name ‘Catholic’ was given to His church (but not by Jesus and not until sometime after His death).

BTW, we see the first use of the word ‘Catholic’ (as related to the Church) about 15-20 years after John wrote the Book of Revelation, in a letter written by St. Ignatius – around 110 AD. Because the number of churches at this time was so large, it was only logical to unify and identify all of them under one [Universal] church with one name. So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. (Acts16:5) This provided consistency and it kept all the different churches (congregations) from distorting, manipulating, or reinterpreting the ‘good news’ of Jesus Christ in order to suit their own desires.

“So ... do the Pope’s detractors support the evils of socialism, egalitarianism, and utopianism?”

Obviously, the answer is going to involve the evils of Easter inflicted upon Christianity by secret Pope Constantine.

This is not just a Catholic issue. All of us should applaud the current Pope

Sadly, that won't happen -- see posts 4 and 8

a man-made organization started .

Might be good for you to actually study some history Uri or read the Bible for a change

Constantine the Imperator never started any organization

All that Constantine did was become the second Emperor to legally stop the persecutions of the Church

He didn't form the Church -- that was Christ, God to me, prophet to you.

The Emperor Constantine was not a Pontiff of the Church. Which part of Bizzaroworld did you get that from?

you do realize that Quix is gone, right? banned

Furthermore, you do realise that Constantine was part of God's plan to further His Church?

Just like the Kings of Armenia, Georgia and Ethiopia who made Christianity the state religion of their countries?

Just like Cyrus the Great of Persia was part of God's plan to free the Judeans from the Assyrians?

from Tarshish/Cadiz in the West, across Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia in Africa, and as far east as the Syriac-speaking missionaries went -- certainly as far as Baghdad and Teheran, Kerala, to the Mongol Naiman tribe --- all the early AD communities were hierarchical, sacramental, and liturgical.

All evidence --- again I emphasize, inside and outside of the Roman empire --- whether written in Syriac, Coptic Egyptian, Ge'ez, or Armenian, regardless of whether culturally they were Latin or Hellenistic or Semitic or Persian, regardless of whether theologically they were Orthodox or Monophysite or Nestorian --- all evidence shows this: their leaders were based on Apostolic Succession by the laying on of hands; they were bishop-led rather than local-lay-led; they were sacramental (certainly with the "Sacraments of Initiation": Baptism-Chrismation-Communion) and had ordained-clergy Eucharist-centered liturgy, recognizing the Body and Blood of Christ.

uri: I have researched that claim and have found no evidence to support the hypothesis.

Yup, to all of your hypothesis, there is 0 evidence.

Constantine, himself an Albino Monk Assassin and the first pigmentless Pope, turned Christianity into paganism by mandating Easter on threads where the Church points out the links between communism and the gay agenda.

makes you wonder if they support communism and the homosexual agenda -- they probably do...eh Xenia?

>>so now you agree with Uri in rejecting the Christian Trinity?<<

Nice try Cronos. You know better but hey, it fits the philosophy of Catholics to try to inject false meaning into words.

Do the papal critics on this forum disagree? Do they wish to see institutionalized sodomy, misnamed "homosexual marriage", enshrined in law? Are they, in fact, closeted supporters of sexual perversion?

The answer to your question is yes. They'll join with the pinkos to further their anti-Christianity

They'll join with those who reject the Trinity as pagan....
