VATICAN CITY (AP) - Cardinals from around the world gathered Monday inside the Vatican for their first round of meetings before the conclave to elect the next pope, amid scandals inside and out of the Vatican and the continued reverberations of Benedict XVI's decision to retire. The Vatican said 103 of the 115 electors had arrived, while the other dozen are en route. The dean of the College of Cardinals has said a date for the conclave won't be set until all cardinals have arrived.

Considering that JPII and Benedict had selected almost all the Cardinals, the next Pope won't be the liberal all the cognoscenti wish for.

I sense this is why B16 did 8 years as Pope, continue where JP2 left off.

I have more faith in Benedict's selections. I think he's picked 68 of the 116 who can vote.

JPII was a holy man but IMHO, a lousy pope. He allowed the bishops to do whatever they wanted and appointed some pretty horrible ones and elevated even worse. I don't know how a Pope who's paying attention could have allowed the elevation of Roger Mahony to the status of Cardinal... JPII made him a bishop, then Archbishop of the largest diocese in the USA and finally a Cardinal. Horrible decisons.

Thank you for the link Salvation. Yes, let us pray in faith that the Holy Spirit will inform the electors of the next Successor to St. Peter.

Not the 'intelligentsia', the AP nor its anti-Catholic columnists named nicole.

These “scandals” in the church that the media trumpets are all creations of the self-same media.

They've had that article title ready ever since the last Conclave.

They probably also have a half dozen or so about the horrible infighting among the Cardinals ready and waiting several titles already picked out for the series they're already writing about how disappointed "everyone" is with whoever is chosen.

Good summary.

Besides, what scandal? There’s only scandal if one allows one’s faith to be impacted by another’s misbehavior. Here’s a “Captain Obvious” headline we won’t see: HUMANS SIN.
