Are Most ‘Preachers’ Daughters’ Hot-to-Trot Lolitas?
THE CHRISTIAN DIARIST ^ | MARCH 12, 2013 | JP

So I was looking over the wife’s shoulder while she was watching “Project Runway” on Lifetime TV. During a commercial break, Lifetime aired a promo for a new show that debuts tonight.

The promo begins with the familiar Aretha Franklin tune, “I Say a Little Prayer,” playing in the background.

A young woman, looking like she works for some sort of escort service, is getting dressed. She oh-so-sexily applies her lipstick and mascara before teasingly stroking her hair.

She surveys a rack of clothes before deciding upon a dress that looks very much like lingerie. She puts on a pair of suede high heeled pumps then walks down a flight of stairs (in slow motion, of course).

I thought the promo was for some spin-off of “The Client List,” the Lifetime series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as a lovable housewife-next-door turned high-priced escort.

But, in fact, it was for a new Lifetime reality show – “Preachers’ Daughters” – that most Christians, I suspect, will find offensive. Not the least because it promises viewers that the series will “raise some hell.”

“Preachers’ Daughters” features three families, headed by pastors, with teen-age daughters. Each episode, according to Lifetime, offers “a hard-hitting but often humorous look at the lives of these pastors’ daughters as they balance the temptations every teen-ager faces with their parents’ strict expectations and code of conduct as influenced by their faith.”

Of course, the problem with putative “reality” shows is that they present a decidedly distorted picture of reality. And so it is with “Preachers’ Daughters.”

Olivia, the 18-year-old daughter of Mark Perry, pastor of Everyday Church in Oceano, California, spent her high school years partying hard, abusing drugs and alcohol. She got pregnant and, so promiscuous was she, she didn’t even know who her baby’s father was.

Taylor, the teen-aged daughter of Ken Coleman, pastor of City of Refuge Pentecostal Church in Lockport, Illinois, rebels against the rules set down by her dad, sneaking out of the house, kissing boys and yielding to temptation. Taylor says “my alter ego kind of wants to be a porn star.”

Then there’s Kolby, the 16-year-old daughter of Nikita Koloff, a former professional wrestler who makes the family’s home in Spring Hill, Tennessee but is now a traveling evangelist. Kolby’s mom Victoria, who is divorced from her dad Nikita, happens to be a preacher herself, hosting a faith-based radio program. Teen-aged Kolby complains that before every guy she dates, “my mom has to interrogate him.”

“God made the world in seven days,” says Lifetime’s promo for “Preachers’ Daughters.” “Moses parted the Red Sea. But if these preachers can control their teen-age daughters, it would really be a miracle.”

Well, I know that there are some teen-aged pastor’s daughters that drink, that abuse drugs, that are unwed moms. I imagine there are a few here and there that get caught up in the sex business, perhaps even becoming porn stars. And I accept that there may be a few reared in broken homes, where dad and mom, both pastors, are divorced.

But that’s not the reality of most preachers’ daughters. In fact, most are well-adjusted. Most are respectful of their parents. And most take seriously their Christian walk.

I know this not only from following the activities of Christian youth, including PKs (preachers’ kids), but also from first-hand experience. Because I grew up with two God-loving, self-respecting sisters who are preachers’ daughters.

Small sample size and obvious selection bias I admit...

Every child of a Police Officer I ever met was inclined towards criminality.

Every child of a Preacher I ever met was inclined towards a sinful life.

These “Pastors: would NOT qualify as “Elders(http://bible.org/article/qualifications-evaluation-elders-and-deacons “ much less “pastors”.

Yeah—his next project will be “The Catholic Cliterectomy Conspiracy,” followed by “Jewish Jihadists of Jerusalem.”

The hardest partying kids I knew were preacher’s kids. A couple of the easiest girls in town were daughters of a hard assed evangelical minister who spent all his time condemning everyone and everything around him while his daughters...3 out of 4...were busy producing illegitriamste babies. Made me glad that our Priests couldn’t marry!

Actually I have known some people like that too. Parents were unreformed hippie slime from the 1960’s, kids were decent, honorable, straight-arrow Christian types.

To be fair, in the Catholic Church we have our share of these problems too. We had a Catholic high school here that literally had to change its name because the girls there were so wild.

Too many families would send their sons to public school but their daughters who needed to “settle down” all got sent to this particular Catholic school. So all the guys knew that the biggest collection of easy, out-of-control oversexed Amazon women was to be found in that school.

When we played baseball as kids and you got down in your infield stance, “Legs spread wider than a (name of this school) girl!” was the saying. Which damaged the brand a little bit.

Every preachers daughter I ever met was willing and able to stray.”

In our church they always blamed the kids of the Deacons for corrupting the preacher’s children. It really was the other way around.

LOL.

I are too! An English teacher and an Engineering instructor!

They be excellent in every way!

I remember my brother trying in vain to convince them that his poor scholastic performance was, in some way, the fault of his teachers. Yikes! Talk about a tough sell!

“Betcha a bunch of butcher’s daughters are vegetarians too.”

Not just rebellion I would think - sometimes also a case of ‘seeing the sausage get made’.

When you know the man behind the pulpit when he isn’t behind the pulpit; or the man behind the badge when he isn’t behind the badge - sometimes that can cause disillusionment.

Especially being the daughter of the sort of Preacher who would agree to do this show.

Well that is also why I admitted a bit of selection bias.

If I had grown up contemporaneously with you and your brother no doubt I would have MET your brother! ;)

Perhaps the fathers (pastors) believe that by doing this, by opening up their lives for all the world to see, they may be helping others to see that Christians are NOT perfect, as the secular world expects of them or perhaps, thinking that their daughters might be ‘shamed’ into returning to the fold. I choose to believe that they are allowing this because they feel that they may somehow, be helping His Kingdom.

One thing I DO know, is that the Adversary spends no time on the non-believer, as that would be a waste of Its time. Instead It spends Its time trying to steal, kill and destroy the Believer and his trust in the Lord. Believe me, I know and have certainly experienced this! I am currently going through a divorce, job loss and possible loss of our home, and the attacks by the Evil One are coming hot and heavy, to doubt His Word! That said, I still wear my ring, believing that the Lord, who condemns divorce in Malachi, will reconcile us, if we are both willing to follow His will.

In the example of this show, the Adversary is attacking the Preacher’s families in an attempt to keep the Preachers’ focus away from God, witnessing and spreading His Word. The Evil One has had 6,000+ years of practice, observing human actions and has the ability to see an individual’s weakness and attack the area(s) of your life that are most vulnerable.

These Preachers need sympathy and prayers, so that they are focused on the Lord, to do His work. Of course, the daughters also need prayers to protect them from the attacks and temptations of the Evil One.

They do these shows because they think it will be a stepping stone to a career in Hollywood.

If this is accurate characterization, then there is little difference with the world--not like some extreme cases, but blantant disregard of God's word:

  1. Divorce -- God hates divorce. He doesn't honor divorce. People who remarry after divorce while their spouses still live technically commit "adultery." See (Romans 7:2,3) which works for men and women.
  2. Women preachers -- women are to keep silence in the churches. (1 Cor 14:34,35) Nor are they to usurp authority over the man. (1 Tim 2:12)
  3. Apparel -- "Women are to adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." (1 Tim 2:9,10)
  4. Dating -- as practiced today is serial fornication.

Three years ago I made the mistake of actually reading the Bible. (The goal is once a year). Believers who have the Holy Spirit need no man teach them (1 John 2:27). It can help/accelerate the process, but reading the Bible is critical. The current faith and practice of many run counter to God's word, due to their ignorance. I blame mealy mouthed, cowardly preachers/men for this, for not adhering to God's word, even at their own hurt and possible loss of wordly stature. The world hated Jesus. It will hate and persecute all those who try to live godly in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim 3:12). Suck it up.

I've found that, as a general rule, to be true. I've also found that most preachers are very far from being the paragons of virtue that they are portrayed as.
