Can plunder be taken from warriors, or captives rescued from the fierce?

But this is what the LORD says:

“Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save. I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.” (Isaiah 49:24-26)

Father in heaven, we thank You for Your provision that shines on us in the sunlight and falls on us in the rain.

Lord, we pray for those in our military, that You would guard them in both body and soul. We ask You to show all of them mercy, in all that concerns them.

Lord, as the Gosnell trial reminds us of all the cruelties our nation permits in the name of choice, we pray for the end of abortion in America. Make the truth of this matter plain to everyone.

Father, Your people have often faced oppressors and enemies, strong and fierce; yet You have said to us that captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce, for You will contend with those who contend with us, and You will save the children of Your servants. You – the LORD, the Mighty One of Jacob – are our Savior, our Redeemer. You are our God, who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were. What is impossible with us is possible with You, for Your weakness is stronger than our strength and Your folly is wiser than our wisdom. We put our hope in You, in the Name of Jesus Christ who has loved us, Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and envelop them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
