She started her first estrus a couple of days ago and has been subdued for a couple of weeks and picky about her food.

Saturday, she fell hard while playing in the yard with Gypsy and then on Sunday, bonked her head on the airline crate beside our bed while playing fetch with hubby.

I did not see that happen but he said she yelped and shook her head for quite some time.

Got back from the e-vet a bit ago and she is still out of it. They gave her Rimadyl and Pregalabin to take. She is on the bed, just lying there in a daze.

Her already iffy vision seems to be worse, whether from hitting her head and 'reactivating' her previous head injury [one vet theory] or if her reticence to play lately has been her eyes getting worse.

She does better in the yard than in the house. [vet thinks her strabismus gives a frontal/close focus 'blind spot']

We are told to go to the dog neuro.

Tonight cost us nearly $600 so I'm freaking out about what a specialist will cost.

I don't know if CareFirst will up our limit or not but we don't have whole lot in reserve, there, now.

I just don't know what happened.

She went from running in the yard to drooling uncontrollably and head weaving in minutes.

"Wobblers" was suggested but x-rays looked good and her CBC was pretty near perfect [a few little high/little low readings that the vet was not concerned about]

I have never seen anything like this except for my Ibizan who almost surely died from undiagnosed Lyme. [the pup has also been put on Doxy, just in case]

It could be a concussion or something much worse.

My heart is breaking.

I went through such hell for her as a baby and I thought we were slowly, steadily catching up but then this.

Between hubby's 3x bypass, 3 deceased dogs, 1 deceased dad and our business collapsing, I just don't have any strength left.

I just want to die.

Please pray for my baby girl

She is only 7 months old and I dearly want her to grow old with me.

Oh no! Sounds serious.

Could she have eaten something she shouldn’t have?

Prayers Up Salamander. Sorry to hear this. I know God does perform miracles on his animals too. My father would pray for our Lab when he had seizures and he prayed over our Chickens. Animals are God’s precious creatures and is a gift to us.

Lord, please send Saint Francis to care for her. You said All Creation Lord and she is Your creation. Watch over her and have mercy. I ask this in Jesus Holy Name.

Saint Francis will watch over her as he did my Hannah. Keep the faith.

Not really likely.

Her stomach x-rays showed an empty belly and no blockages or anything else amiss, either.

My thanks to everybody...I’m running back and forth watching over her and checking in here so please don’t think I’m not replying if I take a while or don’t reply to every person individually.

I’m so worried about her that I can’t help but hover over her, watching.

It’s a bit hectic, here.

I *hope and pray* that’s all it is.

She’s gotten through a terrible one before but back then, she was only 4 weeks old and not very mobile yet so it was hard to judge whether she really feeling awful or not.

She barely even had her eyes open, let alone being able to run around and play.

She was in dire straits from that concussion, I know and I’m hoping that this is just a milder one.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Sure it's not a skull fracture? If that's been ruled out, it could be a concussion. Our friends gave their dog Diazepam after her seizure/stroke and comforted her with quiet setting and lots of lovin'. Their dog has improved greatly but has taken months and months.

The one word of advice I can give is this: Some dogs react poorly to certain dog foods or human foods. I would change the dog food to another brand or if you give table foods, experiment with different combinations for a few days and see if you notice a difference. Can be a long process, but we eliminated chicken strips that you buy in flats and we noticed a HUGE improvement in our dog. Take note of certain preservatives.

Does the puppy walk with a stomping sort of gait; Heavy footed? Could be neurological.. Don't let a specialist raid your wallet and then tell you he or she "doesn't know". Try a change of food/diet.. Buy a microwavable bag of veggie (cauliflower/broccoli/carrot mix), set it to 4 minutes then cool for mixing a portion in with the pups regular dog food.

Having a dog can be heart-breaking, but you do your best and hopefully FReeper prayers will help!

Sorry for rambling but I want to help because I love dogs!

We all understand and are praying for you. I am not a big fan of Rimadyl..about a month ago our Shih Tzu Maxie hurt his back(Shih Tzu’s are prone to back issues) and he was screaming so my sis took him to the ER and the Vet gave him Rimadyl..two days later he got an ulcer from it and had bleeding so they had to flush the stuff from his system. Normally the stuff works fine but some dogs can have really bad reactions from it. When I read that Halla took that drug I remembered it right away

I’ll pray for you and the puppy. I know what it’s like to feel completely broken.

Why does the vet want to refer you to a dog neurologist? IF it’s a concussion, there’s not much that can be done either for humans or dogs; it just has to heal on its own over a period of months. If there’s a brain bleed, there’s not much that can be done for dogs, since brain surgery is probably not going to happen. So I wonder what a dog neurologist could offer. Did the vet say?

Try to give it to God, dear Salamander. I know, talk is cheap and it’s easy to say that, but I’ve been there. Sometimes all you can do is ask God for the strength to face life, just for this day.

One of my cats whacked his head on a big piece of furniture and had a similar event including seizures and other scary stuff. HE was out of it for a few days, may have had a couple of smaller episodes but is fine and back to his old ways.

I hope your buddy recovers completely, I personally trace it to the head smack and getting a concussion and the brain fog that results.

I will most definitely pray for you and your pup, my animals are part of my family and I understand your pain and anxiety.

Praying for y’all. Usually an older dogs disease, and the drooling doesn’t necessarily fit unless she’s so dizzy she’s nauseated, but what about a vestibular disease?

She went from running in the yard to drooling uncontrollably and head weaving in minutes.

Not a vet or a doc, but that smells like a stroke. Won't necessarily show up on X-rays.

I just want to die.

Know the feeling. Fight it. Seek God. Remember that this ball of dirt is all temporary.

It is VERY hard out there these days, but have faith. Again, it is hard. Sigh.

Praying for precious little Halla.

Please try to find a holistic vet. They can perform miracles & usually never drug up the patient for a cure.

At the very least, get an opinion & you may save Halla's life.
