Mending Vatican Ties: Al-Azhar Wants Pope to Declare Islam Peaceful

(MENAFN - Arab News) An envoy from Al-Azhar in Cairo, raised the prospect of restoring ties with the Vatican yesterday but called on Pope Francis to take "a step forward" by declaring that Islam is a peaceful religion.

"The problems that we had were not with the Vatican but with the former pope. Now the doors of Al-Azhar are open," Mahmoud Abdel Gawad, diplomatic envoy to the grand imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, told Italian daily Il Messaggero in Cairo.

"Francis is a new pope. We are expecting a step forward from him. If in one of his addresses he were to declare that Islam is a peaceful religion, that Muslims are not looking for war or violence, that would be progress in itself," he said.

A ceremony in March, in which Pope Francis washed the feet of young inmates in Rome, including a Muslim girl, was "a gesture that was very, very much appreciated" by Al-Azhar, Gawad said.

The Pope is supposed to say that decapitations are peaceful? Bloodletting of innocents is peaceful? Stonings are peaceful? How mentally retarded are these muslims?

I would love for the Pope to say something like “I cannot declare another person as anything. They declare themselves through their actions. We are all known by our fruits.”

As an aside, has any serious Muslim leader ever declared Christianity to be “peaceful”?

I think not. Just sayin’.

Whatever anyone may think of the new pontiff, he shows no signs of being either stupid-as-sh@@ or corrupt. He’ll “declare Islam peaceful” just as soon as pigs start flying.

Mending Vatican Ties: Al-Azhar Wants Pope to Declare Islam Peaceful

The Pope should say that the only way to mend Vatican ties is for Muslims to allow the construction of a big Catholic church complex in Mecca.

Anything else is typical, lying, self-serving Muslim bullsh!t.

You are correct:

From a previous article:

Turkey has reacted angrily to the Vatican following a statement from Pope Francis describing the mass killings of Armenians during World War I as “the first genocide of the twentieth century” during a meeting with a delegation led by Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics on June 3. “The Turkish Foreign Ministry delivered Turkey’s views on the issue and expressed disappointment to the embassy in Ankara and Vatican in Rome,”

The Islamic Turks have been denying their Slaughter of Armenian Christians for years. Why they can’t just acknowledge their history a d move forward is troublesome. Because it implies they’re ready to do it again. This is the same problem with Shoah deniers or those that try to deny the nszi or communist slaughters of millions of other people The dead remain dead at any event. The living were t killed. What deniers are saying is that they want to kill more people. This is a serious problem. And unlike Israel (which can turn its enemies into instant parking lots anytime it is too seriously threatened or just finally provoked) Armenia is a pretty weaki little country and thus feels l the more venerable to Islamic threats

He can declare it all he wants, but it won't make it so, any more than declaring that pi = 3 will make it so.

I wish I was as sure as all of you that we won't hear this from our Pope. Remember, Vatican II now declares:

But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place among whom are the Muslims: these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day (Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium 16, November 21, 1964).

and

The Church has also a high regard for the Muslims. They worship God, who is one, living and subsistent, merciful and almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men. They strive to submit themselves without reserve to the hidden decrees of God, just as Abraham submitted himself to God's plan, to whose faith Muslims eagerly link their own. Although not acknowledging him as God, they venerate Jesus as a prophet... (Second Vatican Council, Nostra Aetate (3), October 28, 1965).

So, you see, Islam really isn't a violent, diabolical, abominable, false faith anymore.

"Francis is a new pope. We are expecting a step forward from him. If in one of his addresses he were to declare that Islam is a peaceful religion, that Muslims are not looking for war or violence, that would be progress in itself," he said.

Reminds me of the temptation.

Mat 4:2-10

(2) And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

(3) And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

(4) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

(5) Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

(6) And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

(7) Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

(8) Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

(9) And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

(10) Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Yeah, that’s right restore ties and get more of the same. Moslems are like the trouble making next door neighbor who just wants to get her foot in the door so that she can cause mischief. Keep them as far away as possible.
