This is what the wicked are like – always carefree, they increase in wealth.

Surely in vain have I kept my heart in pure; in vain have I washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been plagued; I have been punished every morning.

If I had said, “I will speak thus,” I would have betrayed your children. When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.

Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin. How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors! As a dream when one awakes, so when you arise, O Lord, you will despise them as fantasies.

When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.

Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. (Psalm 73:12-23)

Dear Father, we thank You today for all the good things You have given us, great and small.

Father, we pray for our military – not as an organization but as individuals, filled with human needs. Whatever needs each one may have, may You meet them through Your grace in Christ Jesus.

Lord, as we witness the Supreme Court rulings disregard You and Your ways, we don't know what to say except to ask for forgiveness, and for Your help in the way forward.

God, so often in this world we see what is right fail and what is wrong succeed, and we wonder why You don't act. The innocent suffer, the evil prosper, and we don't understand why You let them. But if we were to say that anyone keeps his hands clean or heart pure in vain, we would betray Your children. Surely You place the wicked on slippery ground; You cast them down to ruin. As a dream when one awakes, so when You arise, O Lord, You will despise them as fantasies. Until then You are patient, wanting all to repent, and none to perish. And You are patient with us, even when we are grieved and embittered, complaining in the middle of all Your goodness. We are always with You; You hold us by our right hands. And we pray to You, in the blessed Name of Jesus, Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation. From the brave, untrained volunteers who strode into Valley Forge that Winter arose the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, world-wide defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and envelop them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
