‘Duck Dynasty’ Star Phil Robertson a Stand-up Christian
THE CHRISTIAN DIARIST | JULY 28, 2013 | JP

Posted on 07/28/2013 12:50:19 PM PDT by CHRISTIAN DIARIST

I’d heard rumors that Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Louisiana family that stars in the hit TV show “Duck Dynasty,” was a faithful Christ follower.

I confess I wasn’t convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. Not the least because there is always hearsay about this celebrity or that public figure, which, upon close scrutiny, turns out to be fiction.

(Indeed, it’s often been said that Barack Obama is a Christian. But no true Christ follower would undermine the institution of marriage, as Obama has. And only a false-hearted Christian, like Obama, would pledge allegiance to America’s unGodly abortion-industrial complex.).

Anyway, I went to see Robertson in person last weekend, to hear his testimony for myself. And after listening intently to his message, I am persuaded the anointing of God truly is upon him.

Robertson told a church congregation that he was unsaved when he famously invented the Duck Commander Duck Call back in 1973; that he was wasting his substance with riotous living.

Hard drinking. Whoremongering.

Indeed, a handsome young man, a college football quarterback – who actually played in front of Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech – he would often meet a woman in some bar or another and tell her, “I think I love you. Now take off your britches.”

Then Robertson experienced a game-changing event in his young life. “I heard the good news of Jesus Christ,” he testified. And after stumbling along in darkness, he said, he finally saw the light.

He realized, “The devil had me by the throat and I didn’t even know it.”

And he spoke the truth – with love – to the unsaved souls in the congregation, many of whom wore camouflage in the Duck Commander’s honor. “You can run sex, drugs and rock and roll for a little while,” but there eventually is a price to pay.

He urged them to turn to the Lord, Who will forgive them their sins and cleanse them of all unrighteousness.

“The rarest commodity in the world is peace of mind,” said Robertson. “And you can only find that through Jesus Christ.”

What I found most disarming about Robertson’s testimony was his humility. “Don’t glorify me,” said the co-star of the A&E channel’s most popular show (which reached 9.6 million viewers for the final episode of its most recent season).

To God be the glory.

And Robertson has proven that he is not ashamed of the gospel, no matter how much fame and fortune “Duck Dynasty” has brought him.

Indeed, he confided that the producers of his A&E show took him aside at one point and asked if he would stop invoking the name of the Lord when the family prayed over supper. They worried that some of the show’s non-Christian viewers might be offended.

Well, after the chat with his producers, Robertson once again led his family in saying grace. “Lord,” he prayed, “give them (the show’s producers) the sense to repent before you burn them.”

That’s what I call a stand-up Christian. And I pray continued blessings upon Phil Robertson and his wonderful family.

It never ceases to amaze how the Lord will find the seemingly unlikeliest messenger, like Phil Robertson, to deliver His gospel.

I just finished reading Phil’s book “Happy, Happy, Happy” and highly recommend it. (My tagline was chosen before I knew he had a book by that name.)

Duck Dynasty is one of my favorite shows. I have a massive crush on Jace, but they are all hilarious. Coming from Georgia, with hunters and fishermen surrounding me all my life, they remind me of my own family.

Thanks for posting this. "Duck Dynasty" has become one of my favorite shows--makes me laugh out loud without feeling the need to take a bath.

And I love that it has become so popular! Shows me most people do appreciate good, clean, and wholesome entertainment--if the TV producers would just have the GUTS to offer it! That's why I love PR's prayer for his producers!

Long before Phil got the Duck Dynasty show there was an article in the La Tech alumni about him. He said he could always find a way to connect ducks and Jesus in reaching out to men. So he is the real deal and has been at this for a long time.

I like the folks a lot and own some early calls

But they play up the cliches a bit much

And border on silly

But they damn sure all married well

Southern women

Worlds best

I that alcohol is rarely consumed on the show going counter to the redneck stereotype as seen on “Moonshiners”.

Duck Dynasty videos and items available on line many places, including Amazon.com. Buy stuff and stick it to the bastards who consider them racist.

The last chapter of Happy, Happy, Happy gives you insight to his political beliefs.

Won't give it away, but he quotes Ronald Reagan more than once.

The family is a Christian family. Phil has done video interviews giving his testimony (not sure where they are but you can probably find them with google.)

Someone bought me the book Happy,Happy,Happy a few days ago. I read it in a couple of hours (yea, I can do that) and THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. Phil Robertson is a lot like my dad except for his misadventures at a younger age. Because of that I don’t think the Robertson family is a big deal because my family is a lot like them. What I do think is a big deal is that their ways and values are on television and THAT is a breath of fresh air.

I don’t know which show is worse for society Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty. I guess Duck Dynasty has some stupid humor with it.

Why is Duck Dynasty stupid?

They aren’t dumb rednecks, just rednecks.

The father and all but one son completed college. Willie has an MBA in business.

I never said that Duck Dynasty was stupid. I said it was bad for society and that some of the scenes are stupid. Huge difference. Honey Boo Boo is about the same as this show. The only good thing is only about 4 million watch the show over various sources.

Phil's son {not shown on the series yet} will join the cast this season. He'll be without a beard. He is also a minister. The show does have some added scripting I imagine staged misadventures etc but so what? The biggest sport IMO is the uncle Phil's brother Si. A man who has been married to his wife over 40 years, has a grown daughter, and was an Army Lifer. He allows himself to be the target of a lot of pranks.

The company? Obviously many more persons work there as well. Thus they have time to make a show. Looking at the size of the building and inventory I'd guess about 15-25 not including the brothers. Is the family sincere in their beliefs? Yea I think so and thus they do the show for money and to provide a show which families can watch.

It certainly beats the bombardment of naked morons placing themselves in remote areas which seems to be a show both History and Discovery are competing with.

Tonight I'll watch Mountain Men. One person I consider a flat out phoney. He goes out of his way to make simple things difficult. He also took a pair of horses into a busy city. After that is Ice Road Truckers. I like Alex on that show. The guy with the cowboy hat who realizes his danger and prays. Later on in the week Deadliest Catch comes on and I'll watch it.
