Raise Young to Respect Other Faiths, Pope Says in Message to Muslims
The Catholic Herald (UK) ^ | 8/2/13

Muslims and Christians must raise young people “to think and speak respectfully of other religions and their followers, and to avoid ridiculing or denigrating their convictions and practices”, Pope Francis has said.

In a personal message to the world’s Muslims to mark the end of Ramadan, the Pope said: “Turning to mutual respect in inter-religious relations, especially between Christians and Muslims, we are called to respect the religion of the other, its teachings, its symbols, its values. Particular respect is due to religious leaders and to places of worship. How painful are attacks on one or other of these!

“It is clear that, when we show respect for the religion of our neighbours or when we offer them our good wishes on the occasion of a religious celebration, we simply seek to share their joy, without making reference to the content of their religious convictions.

“Regarding the education of Muslim and Christian youth, we have to bring up our young people to think and speak respectfully of other religions and their followers, and to avoid ridiculing or denigrating their convictions and practices.

“We all know that mutual respect is fundamental in any human relationship, especially among people who profess religious belief. In this way, sincere and lasting friendship can grow.”

And what do you personally do to “mark the end of Ramadan”?

Personally I try to avoid making snarky comments to fellow Christians.

Such a “unity” founded upon nothing at all except a name certainly cannot stand.

I seem to remember reading how a dozen or so men armed with little more than sandals, robes, and walking sticks were able to stand and even convert virtually the entire world, founded on a name. Of course they truly believed in the power of that name.

I meant it in all seriousness, there was no snark intended at all.

A name has no power in and of itself, as the Mormons use the name of Christ, yet teach a different Christ, and are justly damned. It isn’t the mere outward appearance that counts, but whether their Gospel really is what those 12 men delivered to us.

Give me a break. I can read, and comprehend. I know the pope made the speech personally. He said “Muslims and Christians must raise young people “to think and speak respectfully of other religions and their followers, and to avoid ridiculing or denigrating their convictions and practices”. For those that have comprehension problems that means. The pope made a speech in person to Muslims saying that both Muslims and Christians must raise young people to think and speak respectively of other religions and their followers.

>>Remember that Jesus prayed for the unity of all who believe in HIM.<<

Disobeying what He said is NOT believing in Him. Here is just one example.

He says.

Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God

But the Catholic Church says this.

“We need not shrink from admitting that candles, like incense and lustral water, were commonly employed in pagan worship and the rites paid to the dead. But the Church from a very early period took them into her service, just as she adopted many other things indifferent in themselves, which seemed proper to enhance the splendor of religious ceremonial. We must not forget that most of these adjuncts to worship, like music, lights, perfumes, ablutions, floral decorations, canopies, fans, screens, bells, vestments etc. were not identified with any idolatrous cult in particular; but they were common to almost all cults” (Catholic Encyclopedia, III, 246.)

If people believe in Him they don’t do what He said not to.

"Overall Pope Francis needs to use tact in his interviews."

So true.

I laughed when people made a big deal out of him wearing the same shoes now that he's Pope but given how fast he can get his foot out of one of those and into his mouth, maybe it is a good thing that he isn't not wearing some kind of loafer or slipper.

“Talking to Muslims is like trying to teach a baboon to write. It wastes your time, frustrates both you and the baboon, and eventually the baboon sticks the pencil into your eye and starts gnawing on your throat.”

I’m gonna remember that.

Tally up all the numbers of muslims killed during the Rama-bomba-thon.

GPH:

While God, all by Himself, can accomplish anything without help, one who believes that God wants us to sit around like mushrooms awaiting our "fate" is likely misreading and misapplying Scripture. We ought not sit back in lazy spectatorhood while "Sharia Law" ravages our civilization.

Assuming that you did not grow up speaking Arabic, remember that the US has European roots and that you owe a debt of gratitude to God's servants: Pius V, Don Juan of Austria and King Jan Sobieski. They and most of Europe asked and they received. God COULD certainly have achieved the same result without them, but history records that He accomplished the preservation of the Judaeo-Christian civilization of Europe (and thus of the US) through their earthly efforts.

St. Paul did not sit idly around the old homestead speculating that there was just nothing he could do to spread the Faith. And a good thing too!

Just as there were Saxon Protestants among the Catholic Sobieski's forces, so today there are plenty of Christians of all denominations ready to unite to resist and defeat the "jihad." You can catch the action on TV from the comfort of your living room or read the updates on Drudge and we won't resent your survival through the efforts of those willing to set aside differences as necessary to preserve civilization. You need not thank us when it is over. We are used to carrying passive free riders.

Good luck with the muslims, Francis. Not exactly sure that I can respect the Hudud punishments or the polygyny.

I never made any such claim, as obviously God never suffers any of his creatures to remain on holiday. I merely asserted the fact, which you seem to agree with, that God, not ourselves, is ultimately in charge of all world events. Thus, since all powers are established by God anyway, there is no reason to compromise Christianity for mere political gain. When it comes down to it, it is the great commission which trumps all your Jihads and worldly troubles, and without that firm foundation we have nothing. There is no divine commandment to do any of the things you have listed. We are commanded, simply, to teach all nations, presumably with sound and uncompromised doctrine, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Anything beyond this is mere vanity, hoping to conquer through a cultural Christianity which has no substance or power.
