Convicted war criminal's funeral, scheduled at SSPX chapel in Rome, is not held

After the Rome diocese refused to allow a church funeral for Erich Priebke, a funeral for the convicted Nazi war criminal was held in a chapel of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) outside Rome.

The October 15 funeral for Priebke drew a crowd of protesters, with some shouting “murderer” as the coffin passed by, while counter-protesters gave the fascist salute. Police kept the two groups separate.

Priebke, who was convicted for orchestrating the killing of over 300 Italian civilians in the Ardeatine Caves, died last week at the age of 100. He had never disavowed his Nazi ideology.

CORRECTION: NPR reports that the Priebke funeral was "suspended" because the unruly crowd did not allow for safe passage of the casket. Priebke's remains were taken to an undisclosed location, possibly for cremation.

So you are saying that Archbishop Lefebrve didn’t read the actual documents before he made his stand against them? Do you really think he would take such a bold stand without doing so?

As for the so-called loopholes, do you find such loopholes in pre-Vatican II documents?

That’s interesting. I’m not sure I believe this last letter. All we know is what it’s supposed to include as reported by the article. I would want to read it.

the Liza Minelli film, with Joel Grey Kind of gay, but entertaining. I liked the song Money Makes the World Go Round.

Joel Grey is homosexual. That's common knowledge.
You are right, the movie WAS kind of gay but very entertaining. It was the ONLY thing Liza Minelli did, I think. I don't remember her in any other movie.

Money makes the VORLD go round....:o)

She starred in The Sterile Cuckoo around the same time.

Probably the most chilling scene in movie history.

I didn't see it but looked it up. Typical depressing movies of that day.

But, to give her credit, with a looney tune like Judy Garland for a mother and having to grow up in Hollyweird, it's probably a minor miracle that she didn't turn into a druggie and commit suicide.
She was born in 1946. Yikes, that's a familiar year. She's MUCH older than me as she was born in MARCH. Hah!!

YES! It sure was. Chilling is ABSOLUTELY the correct word.

The Allies did a real number on the Germans with their most punitive and destructive Treaty of Versailles.. The Treaty of Versailles and its "War Guilt clause" caused all kinds of problems.

I was in Austria some years ago and our guide had a real snicker at that. She said that Hitler was an AUSTRIAN, not a German but everyone believed that he was a German and the Austrians, snicker, snicker, let the world believe it.
The AUSTRIANS produced the MONSTER, not Germany. She got a real kick out of that. I didn't ever hear that from any other of our tour guides, in either Austria or Germany.

There aren't too many countries that would have taken that kind of treatment lying down. Impoverishing a group of people for any reason creates vendettas that last forever. Oops, I'm mixing metaphors with Italian, English and German. Ach du lieber!

Satan had a real run for his money at some of the HORRIBLE times in human history.

I've READ that Genghis Khan was the biggest killer of all times.
He used to sweep through the countries, slaying and burning all he could. MOST conquerors would leave it at that. But NOOO, not him.
He would RETURN to the devastation a few days later to ferret out any survivors. Those poor souls who had thought they had escaped Khan were slaughtered, so NO ONE survived.
THAT was efficient slaughter and earned him the largest mass murderer ever. I'm sure he felt that it was his destiny or whatever.

Reminds me of the joke.... "The Austrians are brilliant people. They made the world believe that Hitler was a German and Beethoven was an Austrian."

Hahaha. Good one. They are experts at re-writing human history.

MOZART was Austrian. Couldn't the Austrians be happy with HIS genius?

What you say is true, so make your peace with God and His world and wait with patience.
You are still lucid, can express yourself well and have this marvelous sounding board for your angst. Life IS good.
This life is a blink in time. Eternity is, well, forever. So, get ready for eternity.

What reassures me is that God loves me and wants the best for me. He doesn't give us anything we can't deal with. We do our best, usually, and leave it up to Him. If we can't trust Our Lord, we are doomed.
