In recent weeks Ive been asked to officiate at two weddings. Thats not all that uncommon. As a local pastor who has served in Kirkwood for over 10 years, I am privileged to help bless the marriage of several couples each year. What is uncommon, for this Baptist minister, is that these recent requests are same-sex couples.

I do this knowing it will make some people quite uncomfortable. It will make others angry. Very possibly I will lose some friends over this decision. But I genuinely believe that Christians generally, and Baptists specifically, should support the marriage of LGBT people. Moreover I believe the real pain of not recognizing the legitimacy of same-sex couples ought to be our real concern.

God MUST with the Bible, COME FIRST.
” for this Baptist minister,”
First he is a liar. He is not a Baptist.
The author would compare the words of a moldy old text with his present day contemporary intellect and choose the latter as superior.
This Baptist church has joined the Church of What’s Happenin’ Now in throwing the teachings of the Bible into the garbage and preaching to the heathen with itching ears.
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Not some half-baked humanistic, homosexual rantings by a reprobate false "preacher".
He will be held more accountable for taking on the shepherd role and leading his flock into the pit.
Who is this jerk?
He is Senior Pastor at Kirkwood Baptist Church in St. Louis County, Missouri. Here is his biography:
Scott Stearman began his responsibilities as senior pastor for Kirkwood Baptist Church on February 25, 2003. He has been a pastor since 1989. He has served churches in Oklahoma, Athens, Greece, and most recently in Paris, France (1995-2003). He and his wife, Cecelia, have been married since 1997. They are currently being housed and watched over by two black labs, Josephine and Marie.
Scott was born in Oklahoma. He has a B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University (Religion/History), a M.Div. in biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Th.M. in philosophy and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary; and a Ph.D. in ancient philosophy from the University of Oklahoma. His dissertation was on the epistemology of Xenophanes natural theology, but his real interest is food and music and working with others to understand the relevance and impact of ancient wisdom.
In addition to his pastoral work, Scott has served in a number of other denominational and community capacities. He was a church work assistant for the New York Metropolitan Baptist Association and has served as vice-president and president of the European Baptist Convention (now the International Baptist Convention). His international experience includes a summer at Xinjiang University in China and one summer at the Baptist Lay Academy in Budapest, Hungry. He served as president of the board of directors of the International Baptist Church Ministries based in Fort Worth, TX in 07-08, and is currently the co-vice chair of the board of directors for Doorways (HIV housing).
What would things look like if Satan really took control of a city? Over a half century ago, Presbyterian minister Donald Grey Barnhouse offered his own scenario in his weekly sermon that was also broadcast nationwide on CBS radio.
Barnhouse speculated that if Satan took over Philadelphia, all of the bars would be closed, pornography banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The children would say, Yes, sir and No, maam, and the churches would be full every Sunday . . . where Christ is not preached.
A great many people are turned off by religion - not because of the ostensible reasons of “strictness” in the face of chaotic secularity, but rather the opposite - they are too loose, and believe nothing. What’s the point of believing and going to Church if I can get my religion from the evening news and HBO?
Most so-called “priests” and “pastors” don’t demand enough of themselves, or of their parish.
Thank you, God, for the Roman Catholic Church. Amen.
Wow.
Let’s see, do I fear my Lord and Savior who can take my soul for eternity or man, who can only take this life....
Decisions, Decisions....
Thank you. I love GOD and it hurts deeply to see people that are supposed to be HIS shepherds... leading HIS flock over a cliff!
He will stand for his actions MrB... no doubt!
It is a historical fact, that any civilization of any proportion, that, then, allows sexual deviancy, (which LGBT is), is thereafter, not long for posterity.
Apparently I jumped on the bandwagon because of my pet peeve about female pastors!!
Obviously, the Baptist church is not what it used to be, when it can entrust its souls to the equivalent of someone whose education amounts to reading the religion section of TIME Magazine for few weeks.
It appears that his education had a good basis in Baptist theology. He has a B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University (Religion/History), a M.Div. in biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. But then he went to Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Oklahoma.
