One day, we will know the full extent of Your love for us, dear Father. Even now, we fall to our knees with gratitude for that which You have revealed to us. With all the love that we know to give, we offer to You our hearts and praise.
This incredible quality of loveyea, Love itself-- is not just for those of us who have received it, but longingly reaches to those who have yet to acknowledge and accept Your offer. With Your heart, we yearn for them.
It is in this yearning and by the call of Your Spirit to intercede that we are here today. I struggle to find words to express myself today. It is just an utterance and groaning of, Oh, God. Reveal Yourself to these lost ones. Surely if they understood how wonderful You are, they would run to You.
And yet, You have called us to petition You, so with Your own words (which do not return void), we pray for our military men and women, our Olympic athletes and staff and our citizenry. Let fall in showers, you heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness [the pure, spiritual, heaven-born possibilities that have their foundation in the holy being of God]; let the earth open, and let them [skies and earth] sprout forth salvation, and let righteousness germinate and spring up [as plants do] together; I the Lord have created it. (Is. 45:8)
Isaiah 64:1, 2:Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presenceAs fire burns brushwood, As fire causes water to boilTo make Your name known to Your adversaries, That the nations may tremble at Your presence!
Until they learn to hide themselves in the secret place of the Most High, protect and defend our military and our Olympian representatives by the enormity of Your grace.
Thank You, Sir, for hearing the cry of our hearts when our words fail. We pray in the Name above all Names, Jesus, Your Christ.
Please pray today for our Nation and our military and athletic representatives.
Read: Philippians 1:12-21
I once asked a counselor what the major issues were that brought people to him. Without hesitation he said, The root of many problems is broken expectations; if not dealt with, they mature into anger and bitterness.
In our best moments, its easy to expect that we will find ourselves in a good place surrounded by good people who like and affirm us. But life has a way of breaking those expectations. What then?
Stuck in jail and beset by fellow believers in Rome who didnt like him (Phil. 1:15-16), Paul remained surprisingly upbeat. As he saw it, God had given him a new mission field. While under house arrest, he witnessed to the guards about Christ, which sent the gospel into Caesars house. And even though those opposing him were preaching the gospel from wrong motives, Christ was being preached, so Paul rejoiced (v.18).
Paul never expected to be in a great place or to be well liked. His only expectation was that Christ will be magnified through him (v.20). He wasnt disappointed.
If our expectation is to make Christ visible to those around us regardless of where we are or who we are with, we will find those expectations met and even exceeded. Christ will be magnified.
Amen to your Prayer, Dear Hiskid!
Joining all in prayer.
I understand your request, but why stick athletes in their as if they are doing anything more for us than amusing us so that the politicians can steel our liberty?
Like the many venues of entertainment during the days of the Roman Empire, today’s athletes, Hollywood entertainers, musicians, et all, they have become the weapon used by Satan to destroy the morals of America.
Now that I think of it, I guess athletes and entertainers should be the first ones on your list when asking for prayers.
So, carry on my FRiend, and yes I will pray for them all.
we pray for our military men and women, our Olympic athletes and staff and our citizenry
So often St. Paul used the images of the Olympics, running the race, reaching for the prize, the discipline, when he exhorted living the Christian life. Likewise, images of a soldier - putting on the full armor of God.
May our athletes and military be protected and give a testimony of the spiritual discipline we strive for and the spiritual battles we wage.
Lifting up our heroes, our beloved America, and all God's people in prayer.
Adding my prayer for our Heroes, all athletes and our beloved Nation.
Blessings, etabeta
I love adding my AMEN to such a powerful prayer! Thank you for leading us today!
Amen.
Several people who I trust to hear from God have been very concerned about the safety of the upcoming Olympics. Rather than start another prayer thread, we decided to add their safety to our daily prayer for our Nation.
Thank you for praying!
Exodus 34:5 The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation. 8 And Moses quickly bowed his head towards the earth and worshipped...in like manner, we bow our heads and kneel before you in worship and praise, with petitions and prayers. Amen.
