Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation (4/18/2014) [Prayer]

Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation

Better a poor but wise youth
than an old but foolish king
who no longer knows how to heed a warning.

Ecclesiastes 4:13 (NIV)

Shot heard around the World!

This phrase has come to represent the beginning of many historical events -
like the American Revolution (1775 - 1783).
And its genesis can be traced to
Ralph Waldo Emerson's Concord Hymn :

"Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world ..." !

Emerson words immortalized the American Minutemen resistance
to the British forces back in 1775,
as the British were on a mission to seize and destroy
the American militia ammunition and weapons.

The word of the LORD came to me:
“Son of man, speak to your people and say to them:
‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,
and he sees the sword coming against the land
and blows the trumpet to warn the people,
then if anyone hears the trumpet
but does not heed the warning and the sword comes
and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.
Since they heard the sound of the trumpet
but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head.
If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.

Ezekiel 33:1-5 (NIV)

But the night before the start of the American Revolution ….

April 18, 1775

...and early morning the following day ..

Paul Revere crossed the Charles River and rode to Lexington
to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were coming.

One if by Land, Two if by sea

To alert the Charlestown colonists of the British troop movement,
Revere had instructed the sexton to signal by the code
of the number of lanterns set in the tower of Boston's North Church.
From the other side of the Charles River,
Revere spied the two lanterns to indicate
the British would be crossing the river ... "by sea."

Paul Revere with William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott continued on
toward Concord, warning many along the way.
Revere and Dawes were stopped by the British,
but Prescott got away to finish the ride to Lexington.

* Paul Revere's Ride *

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote this poem in 1860
lionizing this event that ignited the Revolutionary War.
It's told through the eyes of the landlord
and has become a classic in American culture.

Heavenly Father –

As we passed the anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride – April 18th – and the start of the American Revolution – April 19th – may we remember the watchfulness and sacrifices of our founders so that we may live in a free country. May we never take our rights – especially freedom of religion and speech – for granted. May we be ever vigilant to the enemy within who would rob us of our birthright.

Forgive us for taking the gift of freedom and liberty for granted and not using this great opportunity to proclaim the Gospel – not only with our words, but with our lives. May we turn our hearts back to Author of Freedom and Rights – which come from God, not by any government.

Bless our heroes from the time of George Washington to our present hour, who sacrificed and still sacrifice to secure our freedoms and keep us safe. Bless all the prayer warriors who defend us from the enemy of our souls. Like the Minutemen, may we never become complacent, but always be ready and watching for Your blessed return.

In Jesus Name we pray,

Amen

-----------

Give thanks to the LORD,
for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Psalm 118:1 (NIV)

Keep praying for America

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!

GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON
THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE

"Let Tyrants Shake Their Iron Rod"
William Billings

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

Lafayette

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.

AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and envelop them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.

HEAVENLY FATHER, Lord of the Nations, unto Your Divine Mercy we commend the souls of these valiant men and women who have fallen in the service of our Beloved Nation and in defense of the Freedoms we hold dear. We pray that You gather them in Your loving embrace, that You cause Your Countenance to shine upon them, and that You vouchsafe their souls to dwell eternally in Your Divine Presence. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
