You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low. You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

Father in heaven, we come to You, and we pray to You, for in You is our life.

Lord, we pray for the men and women in our military. You know the secret hearts and deepest needs of every one of them, and we implore You to be gracious to them.

O God, to the faithful You show Yourself faithful, to the blameless You show Yourself blameless, to the pure You show Yourself pure, but to the crooked You show Yourself shrewd. You save the humble, but Your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low. You are our lamp, O LORD, and You turn our darkness into light. With Your help we can advance against armies; with You, our God, we can scale walls. In You our fears are turned to courage and our weakness to strength. You cover our sins in righteousness and give us riches for poverty and beauty for ashes. We praise You for Your graciousness to us, in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
