Interesting article, I hope it’s true. I will say this however, I have seen way too many parents, Christians, out and out fail to provide for their children and claim it is fine. It is not fine.

I have said that Abraham possessed nothing. Yet was not this poor man rich? Everything he had owned before was his still to enjoy: sheep, camels, herds, and goods of every sort. He had also his wife and his friends, and best of all he had his son Isaac safe by his side. He had everything, but he possessed nothing. There is the spiritual secret. There is the sweet theology of the heart which can be learned only in the school of renunciation. The books on systematic theology overlook this, but the wise will understand.

I don't think that Tozer was meaning not owning anything nor passing down an inheritance to one's children.

I think what he meant was that in Abraham's heart, he owned nothing of this world. That he would have given it all up as it had no hold on him.

Perhaps it would be better said that the world did not own Abraham.

Is this a Christian caucus, or can anyone join in?

:-)

Not a caucus.

God’s truth is for all people.

Long one of my fav books.

If you like it, you must read his later work, “The Pursuit of Man” - the story of how, from Genesis to Revelation, it has always been God pursuing man FIRST, that results in man pursuing God.........

Tozer has tons of stuff that will be posted over time here.

I will look into reading The Pursuit of Man as well. I don’t think that is one we have on our bookshelf, although we have almost all the rest.

I’ll have to go look.

Very insightful, and downright scary! I wrote the ending prayer down in my journal, and he is right, there is fear and trembling! Thanks met mom for posting this!

Forgot to add that Tozer is also one of my fav authors, along with Oswald Chambers, T. Austin-Sparks. With some accuracy, Tozer’s critics have faulted him for being mostly negative - but his exposure of man’s corruption of things heavenly is generally right-on and needed......IMHO.

I like a lot of Watchman Nee’s teachings, (but he only wrote one book - all others are collections of notes from his spoken ministry collected, arranged and published by others)....but Nee is too repetitive and wordy.....probably because others wrote the books.......and many of his views were heavily influenced by his Chinese culture and a reaction to a westernized and very divided Christianity that he saw in China......

Oh, Chambers never wrote a book either. But those who put in writing his spoken ministry kept their works concise and to the point.

Another work - To Serve Man - didn't turn out so well...

Then you’d be one of the rare ones.

I’ll just take your comment with a grain of salt.

Good Morning!

Thank you for posting these!

I read them thirty years ago, but so much has happened in thirty years!

Just think...the first time I read these messages, Reagan was the President, John Paul II was the Pope, and Maggie Thatcher was the PM of England.

It was easy being a Christian back then, so this message of “renunciation” kind of went over my head.

Now, it’s a whole new world, and not a nice one at all. Now, being a Believer is going to COST something.

How do you, or can you prove that god exists?

In what sense?

Are you looking for physical proof or philosophical proof?

I am looking for rock solid concrete proof.

Well, if you are looking for God to drop a billboard down in front of you, or tap you on the shoulder, he could do that, and may in some sense.

Many people ask that if God is good, why is there evil and suffering in the world.

But they really have that backwards.

Given human nature, the question isn’t really that, but rather *Why is there good in this world*?

So, tell me, in light of man’s propensity towards evil, why is there good in the world?

Where does it come from?

If you are looking for proof of God, I will pray that He will reveal Himself to you in a way that demonstrates that reality to you that will speak to you as an individual.
