Gospel ping
1 Corinthians Chapter 15
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
Galatians Chapter 1
Standard King James Version
1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
The disillusion under which Catholics today view that church is astounding.
It looks like it's going to be a good series.
Colossians 2:16-23 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
f with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch (referring to things that all perish as they are used)according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
I will post part 2 on Monday or so .. This writer is an amazing protestant historian !
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
If the weather forecast holds, there won’t be much else to do anyway.
.
The only scriptures that existed at his time: The Tanakh.
Acts 28:
[22] But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
[23] And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
That's all there was at Paul's time. .
LOL..that was my thought
The OT. The ones Jesus kept quoting about Himself as proof of the prophecy about Himself that He was fulfilling.
THAT was their Scripture.
Looking forward to part 2. Thanks for this article.
How could Luther have "discovered" something that had been defined by the Catholic Church nearly a thousand years previous?
And then lost in the convoluted Roman doctrine
**protestant historian ** LOL!
As opposed to what kind of a historian?
Good question and good facts.
Because what Rome "defined" is not what was given to us by God.
Take heed: But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8.
As we go through life, we meet people, and occasionally one or more are messengers from God.
I try to recall the segment about the condensed history of the Inquisition, that was in an old (1960?) Encyclopedia Americana. (Unfortunately, a few years ago my wife deemed it as taking up too much space, was not being used, and therefore worthy to be dropped off at Goodwill.) The account was accredited to a certain RC Monsignor, and there was a part that really stuck in my mind.
He wrote that in about 1100 AD a certain RC missionary encountered some ‘heretics’ in Germany. This missionary testified of these people being peaceful and ‘unwarlike’, some of which could quote the entire gospel of John from memory.
It wouldn’t surprise me one bit that, roughly four hundred years later, Martin Luther encountered various ‘heretics’; some that gave witness to certain scriptural truths that were not of the ‘mainstream christian media’ of his day.
The ‘few there be that find it’, have always had a witness through the centuries, imho. Furthermore, I believe the Lord promised that to be the case.
The revisionist historians of the Catholic Church.
.
>> “As opposed to what kind of a historian?” <<
Pagan RCC history revisionists most likely.
