My mom suffers from resistant hypertension. It got really serious the other day and she called 911. Her systolic was at 200. They stabilized her and we're taking her in to her doctor today. We hope she can get the right medication and treatment since her current medication isn't working very well. Thanks for all of your prayers in advance.

She may need checked for a pheochromocytoma, which is an adrenal tumor that release hormones causing extreme hypertension
Some of the more effective pharma for hypertension is based on a synthetic molecule modeled after the venom of the Brazilian pit viper. The snakes are common in Brazil, and doctors noted that among the bite victims was a symptom of lowered blood pressure.
This was much gentler and safer than the still used diuretics to lower the bp.
Two more notes: be sure to check processed foods for *all* types of sodium, not just sodium chloride (table salt). My favorite “high blood pressure in a bag” is traditional Chex Mix, that has *five* different kinds of sodium in it.
Salt (sodium chloride), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), trisodium phosphate, disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate.
Also, some people substantially lower their blood pressure with either acupuncture or Shiatsu (acupressure, just using the fingers.) The latter is good because you can do it to yourself at home.
Prayers for your mom. My mom is 85 and recently had a similar problem. They found the artery in her abdomen was pinched. They did a minor surgery to make it better and are trying to decide if she would survive a more invasive surgery to repair it.

Coreg + a small amount of lisonopril did the trick for me. Had to go through a lot of trial and error to find the right combination. HIHGLY recommend getting your own BP cuff and take BP regularly. Start a log book and write down the time of the mess and BP every even hour. It helps with the analysis. Also, insist on a sleep apnea test.

Drug remedies are so complex. I had great result for my hypertension with Lisinopril but terrible sinus drip and cough day and night and sweats, so I finally had to get off. Next drug I’m trying now (with added water pill ingredient) is not so effective but close enough, the doctor says. Also, sometimes another doctor has a new solution.
And don’t take any NSAIDs like Advil if that lowers the power of the pill. That was in fine print on a website for one of mine.
Hope there will be a cure soon for everyone with this problem.
