Ortega Regime Expels Missionaries of Charity from Nicaragua

ROME – Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega expelled the Missionaries of Charity, the religious order founded by Mother Teresa of Kolkata, and closed two Catholic TV stations as he continued his campaign to end any form of real or perceived opposition to his regime.

The announcement confirming the closure of all their activities came June 28, as the government of Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, announced they were closing another 101 NGOs “urgently.”

Since a civil uprising of April 2018, the government has cracked down on voices of opposition. To date, there are 150 opposition leaders in prison, including all those who had expressed a willingness to run for the presidency last year. The regime has also canceled the legal status of 758 NGOs, including 42 foreign organizations.

The Missionaries of Charity arrived in Nicaragua in 1988, under the first Ortega administration (1979-1990) and following a visit to the Central American nation by Mother Teresa of Kolkata. The nuns run the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home in the city of Granada, where they take in abandoned or abused adolescents and help them reintegrate into life.

They also run a home for the elderly in Managua, the capital city; a school reinforcement project for at-risk students; and a day care center for impoverished families. As has been the case with hundreds of other charitable enterprises closed by the regime, the state is providing the thousands of vulnerable people who benefit from the sister’s activities with an alternative place to stay or get aid.

The Sandinistas cooperated with another infamous group, the palestinian nationalist group PFLP. Sandinistas even assisted these Palestinians in hijacking airliners.

My daughter-in-law is Nicaraguan, and we used to work with orphans and street kids there, know many Christian ministries and believers there. Daughter-in-law grew up in First Baptist Church of Managua, her grandfather an 85 year old Baptist pastor.

Others in Nicaragua tell us Nicaragua is becoming a North Korea - even more repressive than Venezuela.

Pray for them - they are sweet people - poorest country in Western Hemisphere after Haiti.....the poverty there takes your breath away.......

Even a majority of the Sandinistas have turned against Ortega, knowing now he only wants power - not to help the people.

But Ortega is not the one ruling. His wife - a witch it is said - is the one who rules. Ortega is under her.

When John Paul II went to Nicaragua, gave a speech, and Ortega was soon after removed from office. , Ortega placed a huge pile of tires in front of the altar and had soldiers standing with guns in front of the tires. The despised working people were stuck far away from the altar and John Paul II saw what was happening, gave a clear speech on human rights and stood on a platform so everyone past the tires and soldiers could see him. Ortega was out of office soon after that.

These little craphole countries never seem, to be able to escape their authoritarian rulers. Frankly I’m surprised Ortega is still even alive. It is crap like this that makes me want to have no immigration whatsoever from central america.
