What a hit piece! I could tear this to shreds if I had time and I'm not even LDS.

"We are not contesting the right to protest," Mr Otterson insisted. "But when people go to the Vatican they are respectful. 1. Actually they aren't. They are typical loud gaudy underdressed tourists, even in the Churches themselves.
2. The Vatican is a sovereign State and may set whatever standards of behavior it wishes.
3. When people are videotaped having sex inside St. Patricks Cathedral in Manhatten for a contest, The Mormon Church needs to shut up about a few protestors outside their building.

I find this comical in a way. The LDS people walked 1,800 miles to be able to practice their religion without the interference of mobs, "Mormon Hunts" (yes, Missouri governor Boggs declared "open season" on Mormons and many were murdered), and a thousand died on the long treck. When the LDS got to what is now Salt Lake City, they owned it, including Main Street!
Now, the sob's the LDS were trying to get away from have followed them out to Utah and we are seeing persecution of the Mormons all over again.
If you are unhappy in Utah for any reason, I will personally drive you to the Airport!

If they owned Salt Lake City, why did they sell it?

Fundametalists and Secularists against Mormons...hmmm. Well, my Dad is a mormon, and my mom is a formerly ordained evangelical minister. The rest of my family is Methodist. As a consequence, I'm a secular social conservative libertarian. Irefuse to take sides, and I respectfully bow out of this conversation.

"
Smith began to gather followers who trekked west as they established their own church, and a good many enemies, and in 1844 he was killed by a mob in Ohio." The writer of this filth didn't even get the facts straight. Joseph Smith (and his brother), were martyred in Carthage, IL by a mob that stormed the jail where he was improperly confined. He didn't gather anybody to go west. Brigham Young did that 3 years after The Prophet Joseph's death

this makes sense to you?

I don't live in Utah so I can't leave there.
My point was that the article had so many outright fabrications and slams that even someone who is not LDS can see them.

this makes sense to you? If some loon wants to stand on the sidewalk in front of my house, which is my property, but over which there is a public easement, and harangue me, I will not like it, but it is legal and I will shut up and take it.
Grow up. Words will not hurt you unless you're mentally defective or under the age of 6.

and harangue me, I will not like it, but it is legal harassment and disturbing the peace are not legal.

I don't know about all this making rules and freedom of speech stuff, but I do know that I am going to pray for the mormons to all get saved (through Jesus Christ).

However, incomers are often shocked by what they see as the church's control-freakery. LDS members are expected to avoid alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee and any kind of sexual display, and away from the cosmopolitan state capital, non-conformists can find life difficult: the licensing laws are restrictive, bordering on bizarre. That is of couse unless you are a Mormon Business that caters to the gentiles and you tithe..then as the Marriott Hotel chain knows ...the alcohol..coffee and porn just pours the dollars into the church coffers..it is called Hyprocity

Hypocrisy for sure. But business is business.
Speaking of control, I caught the A&E program on Mark Hofmann this afternoon. What I learned that I didn't know before is that one of the conditions of his plea bargain was that he would not tell what documents he sold to the Mormon church were forgeries.

Right there with you. I wouldn't do it either. It would be interesting to hear the reasons why the Marriott chain does serve alcohol, etc.
Are you talking about the logo?

I'll have to look for that next time I stay at a Marriott hotel. The only Marriot hotels I've stayed in were the Courtyard. I remember blank walls. But huge towels.
