I started to answer that I don't feel that I bash anyone, but that is untrue. I really detest democrats, anti-American peaceniks, elitists, socialists, so-called environmentalists , people who want to take away private property rights, or any of my constitutional rights.
I really detest people who hate Jews. Or people who think they are the real Jews, and the ones in Israel are imposters.I have a hard time being silent about these issues.

Is that what you call bashing?

Truth is, I like Mormons, and have many close friends, and allies who are Mormons. We agree on many of the issues listed above.

we believe that there are at least 4 people right now who God allowed to 'tarry in the flesh' on the earth until the second coming. They were alive long before 1833 and still are.

Why would discussing Mormon doctrine as it is relevant to current events be off limits? Like in the Smart case?

Why are Mormons able to bash Jews? Illbay does it regularly, and he is one that hits the abuse button when anyone wants to bring out weird Mormon doctrines.

Many of us are very acquainted with Mormon doctrine from birth. It has affected our lives, and our history. Its very hard to sit back and see these people have an uncensored pulpit, to win converts to a religion we consider to be very oppressive, and very false.

Would it help if I went through the threads and tattled every time one of them said very ugly things about us, or our God?

I'm often tempted to just delete the entire Religion forum. If the particpants here cannot learn to be civil to each other, then why bother. It ain't worth the grief.

Are you equally put off by the incivility of the News forum and the General chat forum? Or is it only Religious incivility that you don't like?

And then, there are the abuse button abusers.... sheesh, this stuff can drive a person nuts.

I feel for ya on that one JimRob. One of my sons is like that. I have to tell him, if there's no blood or broken bones then I don't want to hear it. ;^)

For a while there was alot of Catholic bashing. Why was that allowed? I didn't see the Catholics hitting the abuse button, or the threads being pulled?

I think you should note too Jim, that those who have made a "career" out of Mormon-bashing came to the forefront after the first drstevej incident.

It drove my friend xzins away. And a lot of others are already gone as well. They're not off trashing FR like some of the exiled posters.

But we all agree that the current trend is disturbing.

I don't want to leave. FR is my main source of news. And I've found another daily thread that I call home.

But if I can't proclaim my faith, the faith that tells me that Mormonism is a man-made cult, then I have to think about whether or not I do want to stay around.

I removed myself from this forum and from the Calvinist/Arminian wars. But, in this case, it is very hard to say "just let them have it."

In general, charges of "catholic bashing" refer to disagreeing with Catholicism.

Yeah, well there are a lot of people who think your religion is a man-made cult. In fact there are a lot of people who think all religions are man made cults. This is religion bashing as far as I'm concerned. And I do not appreciate it.

However, in many cases, especially on this forum, the abuse is going both ways. It's tough for a moderator to take any action at all when there are NO clean hands. Many times we will simply post a knock it off warning to all involved or sometimes we delete the entire thread. I'm often tempted to just delete the entire Religion forum.

I stand as this group's very first Poster Child for the type of excesses we're talking about here, Jim. I was personally told to "knock it off" for making a post about the weather, after having two of my prior posts deleted.

I can understand deleting posts and threads for abusive language and personal attacks. However, we "bash" liberals on this board all the time, without fear. In this forum, however, such "bashing" only selectively enforced, depending on the belief system being bandied about. Saying "you're an idiot" is markedly different, in my book, from saying "why did your prophet say X and Y?" In my two deleted posts, I showed pictures of LDS locations and artifacts which are common knowledge to any LDS believer. I documented them here. I did not make any accusation or insult against any LDS believer. Thus, I don't find those particular posts in the nature of being "abusive", but apparently someone did. I suppose they find the weather offensive, too.

Please take a look at the thread and posts in question, and let me know what you think.
