Meet the Texas Spoiler (Debra Medina)
Congressional Quarterly ^ | February 3, 2010

Posted on 02/03/2010 7:57:42 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

The "tea party" movement is showing its strength in Texas, where activist Debra Medina is siphoning votes from two much more familiar names running for the Republican nomination for governor. The Houston Chronicle's profile of Medina is worth a read.

With less than two weeks remaining before early voting begins, Medina's campaign appears to be gathering steam; the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows her drawing 16 percent of the vote, versus 29 percent for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who's trying to make the move from Washington to Austin, and 44 percent for the sitting governor, Rick Perry.

The Medina threat is clearly making an impact on her rivals; AP quotes Hutchison alluding to the possibility of a runoff, required if no candidate gets a majority on March 2. (Hat tip to Taegan Goddard for spotting that one.

Obviously your idea of exciting is totally different from mine. Medina talks a good game but we already have an orator and inexperienced President in the White House - we sure don’t need an inexperienced Governor in Texas. She needs to run for City Council, Mayor or something lower on the totem pole, let’s see how she votes and what her decision making process is and then maybe she can run for governor next time.

He’d probably vote for Susan Combs, whom I adore.

She’s like a Texan Maggie Thatcher. I’ve met her and love her.

Too bad she didn’t throw her hat in.

The fact that you are asking the questions as a non-resident of Texas is fine. Texas residents are asking the same ones with no answers. Eliminating property taxes is not doable unless we have a state income tax and raise sales taxes. Neither one of these dogs will hunt down here.

I am not familiar with her.
I hope to hear more in the future.
We need some new blood in some ways.

If that is the case, I would be very, very skeptical of her. A possible spoiler plant, or just upstart shot into the dark, and therefore easily bought after election.

She certainly isn’t getting my vote. Word on the street that Ron Paul’s munchkins are pushing her. Kay Bailey should retire now and let Perry appoint a true conservative as her replacement - that would give us at least one reliable Senator. This is a huge state - keep thinking that someone will step up to the plate who is a true conservative to take on Perry but hasn’t happened yet - so Perry gets my vote. And then it’s on to take out Bill White who I am sure will have all of the DC crowd down here to help him. State is moving Democrat - lots of outsiders from other states moving here because they don’t like the political scene in their state but then they want to change us to be just like what they left. Go figure!

This is exactly what happened here in Arizona. The University also help the leftward swing along with socialist propaganda.

If Medina does not make the primary, can she possibly run against someone else, like Lloyd Dogget?

High praise. Do other Texas Conservatives feel the same way? If Perry wins maybe she'll run in 2014.

Most people fed up with Perry are for KBH so that makes sense.

I’ll second that...I was in contact with Medina’s campaign when they first started to gather some steam...asked why she was doing this. Bottom line it’s about her not the state. But then people are fooled are they not!

That does not make a politician...she will never be effective in office...just another wannabee loving the starlight...and said so..read her tweeters from the past months.

But I doubt you’ll do so. The fact you’re for her is evidence you haven’t looked at much. There’s a reason Palin and Chenny are not supporting her....rather other more responsible and effective candidates.

See! Her followers are as uninformed as she is.

The most common phrase spoken to her during her nursing career was, "This thermometer tastes like $hit!"

He's been in office for 10 years - shouldn't he have the courtesy to step down?

Using your logic Bush was in office as President too long after eight years so it is a good thing that a no experience outsider having no track record replaced him? Kinda of wing and a prayer hopey changie thing?

In other words you are a Obama supporter?

Okay, now I understand.
