DON'T GET ME STARTED! ...it's not like I have a life or anything. I heard some people actually have one of those.

I've enjoyed learning and revisiting a lot of military history from all of your efforts here in the Foxhole.
I don't hang around FR as much as I used to, but I felt moved to thank you all for your efforts when I saw this thread!
They were certainly appreciated...Especially from this ole Army Engineer...
Thanks!

Sad to come to this thread & note it is the last one! I have lurked here on occasion. So many nice folks here & it was their "home". the same thing happened when Amy's Place closed this summer. she was just too overwhelmed regarding her life to continue. some people wandered over to the Finest but others fell thru the cracks.
Sam & Snippy. Hope you might consider a weekly repost. your followers can visit & you can drop in when possible. Just a thought.
Life & circumstances do change & we must adapt.
I do support groups & in the grief work one I have as a motto "don't cry out in pain because it is over, Thank God that it happened."
and so I wish you well in your capitalistic ventures S & S

Thanks for the thoughts Dolly. We'll think of something. It already seems strange that neither of us will post a thread or ping our "family" tonight. We will strive to at least return monthly. ;-)

Thanks for you're daily history run down and "commentary" buried in between the lines
Commentary! I would never triffle with something so important as On This Day In History! I can't speak for Carlos however. It would just like him to do something like that. I may have to have a word or two with him.

One more expression of gratitude before the doors close.
If and when we make another trip north via I-5 you can bet on receiving a visit. When we drive up to visit family in Spokane, we usually take 97, but 101 is much more scenic and we can cross over to 101 just south of Portland.
I'd ask directions to the shop, but directions? who needs directions? I'll find it. It's a guy thing.
Take care you two. It's been great and I am gonna miss the Foxhole.

Sam, thank you so much for the beautiful haiku and graphic. So many wonderful haiku and classic poems you posted in the Lair over the years, thank you.
You tunes were always a treat, too.
I was thinking about my tank today. I decided I would not retired her yet. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
Best wishes to my old friend SamWolf, your Profile page will remain on my Profile page as long as I am a Freeper!!

Well you should of hollered at us now and again. Thanks for letting us know you were reading. Thank you for your service. Well, sorry about that snippy, but I sorta withdrew from the "finest" threads and others. I read but did not announce my presence. My screen name had changed and I did not want to get into explanations and such. Just wanted to give you my thanks for providing a great service, as does Oliver North and other before him.
You help make history live, and continue to excite and illuminate young minds by pointing out our heritage, past success and failures so that we do the right things and refrain from repeating past mistakes.
Without history, we are doomed to repeat failures and find few successes. Thanks again and my apologies for not pinging you to my post. When I got your reply I realized it.

wolf and feather
side by side
through all kids of weather
we have survived
a friendship strong
always supporting
a wolf and a feather
that is the tether
a little sadness
a lot of joy
a lot of music played
and poetry made
a cyber space friendship
to carry on-- not bound by conditions
just good friends all around.

Oh No!
I always look forward to my Foxhole ping A lot of great work there. Learned about a number of things I did not know about. And more of things I did. You were a great teller
of history.
If you dont mind. Some time Ill get a FoxHole thread together for you. I have a few here that I could do.

Let us remember The Mace.
August 18, 1944, the 1st Polish Armoured Division took up position with 87 Sherman tanks on the wooded "Hill 262" (known as Mont-Ormel to the French, "Maczuga", The Mace, to the Poles) to prevent any counter-offensive from the east seeking to open the door to the Falaise Pocket. From the hill the Poles had a commanding position overlooking the Chambois to Vimoutiers road (by now the last road out of the pocket), and proceeded to attack the fleeing Germans. In response, the isolated Poles were repeatedly and ferociously attacked, especially on August 20 when the II SS Panzer Corps attacked from the Vimoutiers direction (REALLY hard boys - ed.). The II SS Panzer Corps (
Corps!!), escaping the pocket earlier, turned around and attacked The Mace so as to enable the Germans in the the Pocket to escape. On many occasions the Germans penetrated the Polish perimeter. War to the knife. Hand to hand.
The Poles had lost 325 dead, with 1,002 wounded and 114 missing when they were relieved the 21st. The casualties were about 20% of the unit's strength. There was no loss of unit cohesion.
The Germans lost around 2,000 dead, with 5,000 taken prisoner, and 359 vehicles destroyed.

Let me say that I have admired your prose style. It is remarkably compact and the words well chosen.
I have to work pretty hard to keep mine from totally going berserk.
