LOL
YEs, and I painted more than a few Duce and halfs the same *itty pink. BUt it sure works out fine in the Desert - if you watch out for shadows, it is all but impossible to see from the air.
“COurse an F-4 doing 350KIAS isn’t going to see much on the ground anyway.....
heh... yeah... that would be a tough paint job.
But on the whole I really like the digital camo. I've got a couple of the 5.11 tactical shirts in the digital "woodland" pattern... and I think it looks great.
Mil surplus cammies are cheap, though! I have Canadian forest, South African Night, Alpenflage (well Sportsmens Guide calls it that), German Flektar, plus some others and the total cost is about the same as a Mossy oak jacket from Cabelas.
Like many items in today’s military, camo was first used as a combat uniform on a regular basis by the Germans. And, yes, the Waffen SS “came up with” camo.
Actually, wearing the runes, rank insignia, and cuffband was against regulations, but most Waffen SS wore them anyway.
Now if they just dump the zipper and all that velcro, they’ll be set.
Looks to me like old woodland BDUs that were just faded all to hell.
Of course, those worked better in the woods anyway. ;)
I read somewhere once that the reason those vehicles were pink is that they painted them a sand color that subsequently became pink when exposed to the harsh desert sun. The statement may be wrong, but I did read that somewhere.
