I am extraordinarily puzzled. You continually write The perp. Why the singular ?

You omit one fact that must be emphasized:
Several anthrax letters were mailed from New Jersey
and at least one was mailed from Florida, not far from where Atta lived.
Ponder this before you think about anything else.

Thank you for your post!
As I recall, the FBI profile begins with the notion it is one man. We extend that right away by identifying others that may be part of, or related to, the "cell." It indeed could be more than one perp!
As far as I know, the Florida letter has never been found and thus we don't know the postmark. If you have any information on that letter being found, please let us know!

Ponder this. The latest letter (addressed to leahey) was mailed from NJ.

As far as I know, the Florida letter has never been found and thus we don't know the postmark. If you go back to some very early threads, before the Daschle letter,
there was a mention of (I believe) a St. Petersburg postmark.
This fact, of course, no longer is mentioned in the press,
nor is mention made of the Terrorists' interest in crop dusters.
Part of the FBI-Media disinformation campaign, perhaps?

Thank you.
FBI officials said the letter, from an anonymous writer, had a postmark from St. Petersburg, Fla. There are "some similarities" between the handwriting in the NBC letter and a suspicious letter received at the New York Times, which also was mailed from St. Petersburg, according to Mawn. Tests on the powder in the NBC letter proved negative, Lack said, but on Friday a skin biopsy came back positive. That prompted NBC to immediately cordon off its third-floor offices in Rockefeller Center so federal investigators could examine the newsroom site for contamination.

It should have occurred to someone that it wasn't a letter which started the anthrax rolling. It should also have occurred to someone that other things pass through the mail, like shipping boxes via FedEx or other containers. It might also have occurred to someone, that ANTHRAX isn't picked up in an airport screening process and could easily have been hand carried from one place to another in a plastic bag or sealed medicine bottle made of either glass or plastic. It could have been carried in a locket or pocket watch, a sealed joint, cocaine or other powder in gelcaps, an inhaler.
The letters on the documents say ATT ATTA, not simply ATTA.
The origination of the anthrax was NOT in Trenton, and the letters did not originate there either. They were delivered there and sent from there, but there is no lab to be found, no ghostly inhalation or cutaneous anthrax delivered through walls from one location to another. I am surprised that this analysis hasn't considered diplomatic courriers from places which could easily have brought this crap directly to any embassy which is connected to any *state* which is known for research in high tech bio fields...Saudi Arabia being very high on the list.
But, hey. What do I know?

Thank you so much for the article, Nita Nupress!!!
I leaped to the conclusion that quimby was speaking of the letter that went to American Media. Sorry about that, quimby!
