WASHINGTON - "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall."

This week, this old nursery rhyme has taken control of this column. From Washington to Pittsburgh by way of New York City and Los Angeles with important detours to China, Japan, India, Mozambique, Croatia, England, Germany and elsewhere in the world, we have been watching and reading about the great fall of Enron.

So much for big and bigger government, and big and bigger business. It won't work. Never has and never will.

Nothing wrong with big and bigger business. From what I can see in this article, it is when government and business start walking hand in hand, this is when problems start. Enron would not have gotten to where it is without using the government to further its interests.

Government regulation creates the conditions by which businesses need lobbyists in Washington to look out for their interests. This then creates an atmosphere for big business to use government to further its interests. For example, anyone care to discuss how the Microsoft lawsuits started?

Though some voices have squeaked out little calls for investigating how the present admin is tied to Enron .... nothing will come of it because soon the powers that be on the rat side of the bench will quiet them. Can't be telling tales out of school .... now can we?

Too late! Our beloved media has already linked Enron with Bush and Cheney. There is also some congressional commie/black racist thug demanding that Cheney divulge his discussions with Enron reps during the energy policy formulations.

While I agree such discussion/deliberations should be public, Hillie, Willie, and his group of sewer dwellers kept the health care deliberations silent. But, it is too late, the media would NEVER suggest that Willie and Enron were connected. They, as always, want to go after the Republican, not the corrupt commie socialist.

Corporations when first established were useful for consolidating capital to enable companies to realize the advantages of volume production and allow participation of ordinary citizens to participate with small amounts of money.

Corporations, with government participation, have become the American equivalent of Soviet collective farms and industries. They have become bureaucracies with no accountability to their workers, stealing their pension funds, and absconding with funds for the elite executives.

Enron is a perfect example of the modern corporation, furnishing campaign funds for the use of complicit politicians to advance the fascist scheme for transnational corporations and world government. The biggest problem they face is the deteriation of production and the loss of purchasing power for their workers who cease to buy their products.

The law of diminshing returns is starting to show up in the corporate profit pictures. This is causing the current recession and promises to get worse. The private sector of individual entreprenuers is the only hope for the rejuvenation of our economy as the corporations continue to go down.

While this doesn't surprise me, it puts the emphasis on the wrong thing, just as the charges about Enron's ties to Bush do.

Enron was ruthless and they attempted to use everyone they could to further their business goals. I have stated here for more than a year now (long before Enron appeared to be in trouble) that Enron CEO, Ken Lay, was a Republican in name only. Lay was out for Lay and for Enron, period.

Ken Lay was a big backer of Lee Brown for Houston Mayor this year. He publicly endorsed one the dumbest persons on the planet for Mayor, a liberal Democrat against a true conservative.

Why? Because Ken Lay and other "civic leaders" of Houston use this Mayor like a puppet to line their own pockets.

Lay and Enron were happy to use the Clinton Administration in the same way, and I'm sure they hoped they could do something similar with the Bush Administration. So, sure, Enron donated to Bush, but it wasn't because they supported the Administration. They wanted to buy it.

Bush hasn't done anything for Enron, unlike the Clinton Administration. Or, at least we haven't heard of anything. I'm sure folks are looking for something.

But Enron did this to itself, and it would have done it even without any help from politicians. It was aggressive and arrogant about its own ability to manage risk. They, as a corporation, truly thought they were smarter than the rest of us.

But like Icarus, it flew too close to the Sun, and its wings of wax melted.

Blaming politicians for what happened is pure political spin by anybody who engages in it. Enron alone is responsible.

Is there any corruption in which the Clinton Crook Core was not involved? Seriously, this is not a pan, just an amazed question, at how deep and thoroughly corrupt, and vast their involvment in just about all the corruptions going on. It seems like they had a great corruption detector meter buried in the administration, to detect and get rid of corruption, but to detect and get involved in or actually create corruption. An amazing masterpiece machine of corruption on a scale the world has never known.

Well, dog, perhaps my last post was wrong, in that perhaps the corrupt from the world over seek fertile soil, and in the Clinton Corruption Core, they found a boundlessly, endlessly, corruptly fertile soil, and were magnetically drawn to it.

Their growth was phenominal in the power brokerage area. I can't remember the exact analogy but Enron was buying/selling more power than several of the major power companies combined. And they didn't own a generator, but they had vast numbers of traders swapping the commodity by the hour.....

Is Ken Lay a part of the Lay family that owns Frito-Lay?

Well said.

About every 6 months I find myself thinking X42 and his wife are even more corrupt than I thought they were and I thought they were criminals years ago. It has reached the point that I can now say that I would not be shocked by ANYTHING that is reveled about these two.

Conduct that you simply could not imagine any previous POTUS engaging in enters the realm of the possible when it comes to X42.

There in a nut shell is the problem with manufacturing off shore and a country that thinks it can survive by not producing tangible products within its borders but thinks it can with "service industries"...

Enron was nothing more than a middle man. And, as an example the California electricity "deregulation" scam, known as the worst policy mistake in California history, (authored by and passed by Republicans,BTW) was nothing more than the introduction of the middle man in the system....Of course, Enron was behind that type of "deregulation" (there is no other type).

Yep we have middle men in most of our commercial enterprises.... The commodities exchanges are nothing but middle men trading something for use at some future date... corn, pork bellies, oil, etc. and not a one owns a farm or oil well.... The system will work when set up properly but Enron screwed the pooch so to speak in this developing commodity business. However their major errors may have been outside the commodity trading business from what little I've read of what is emerging.

No it wasn't. It introduced new power generators into the state. Those weren't middlemen in any sense of the word. Why would you say such a patently false thing?

You and I have gone around on this many times, and you continue to have a warped view of what really happened both from a political standpoint and from the facts on the ground.

It is unethical for you to deliberately distort the specific language used by the original author just to make your own political point. When he used "Spock baby", he very definitley meant to indicate those who were raied in a permissive environment ans were raised to be spoiled rotten. Your crude attempt to slander everybody born between 1946 and 1964 by replacing it with "baby boomer" is exactly the OPPOSITE of the point the author was making. I was never raised to believe that life was easy or that I was entitled to everything just by wanting it. So please refrain from such unethical acts in the future.

"Hadn't heard this side of the story..."

Yes, an interesting if not typically tangled tale; which always seems the case if a Clinton name is anywhere near a business deal.

Lib media has already tried to highlight GW's and Dick Cheney names with this. Knowledge is best defense and of course, the truth; which Lib media always has a problem with.

p.s. for Pittsburgh Tribune. . .it is 'Arthur Andersen'. . .

So just leave the original terminology which we can ALL agree with instead of replacing it with something which has nothing at all to do with attitudes toward life. I thought his reference to "Spock babies" was so good that I'll incorporate it in future work. Besides, you are quite mistaken in thinkins that 3/4 of the "baby boomers" are dissolute and irresponsible. I can assure that when I was in college from 1967 to 1971, I never met a single person who used marijuana or drank or behaved badly in any manner. Everybody that I knew was quite responsible and focused. So your attempts at slander of an entire generation are quite frankly wierd.
