Reminder: We will be moving the Free Republic server to our new bandwidth provider tomorrow (12/27/01). The plan is to disconnect one of our servers and move it to the new location. The forum will continue to operate on the second server at the old site while we set up at the new site.
After the first server is up and running at the new site on the new IP address and is fully updated with all of the new posts, the forum will operate at the new site and the old site will redirect all requests to the new address. We hope to move the second server to the new site and have the move fully completed by Saturday. Hopefully there will be a minimum of downtime.
Below is the URL for our contingency site on Yahoo. You should visit the Yahoo site and bookmark it. We will leave status reports there during any extended downtime periods.

We do not have our new IP address assignments yet. We will post them tomorrow as soon as we get them.
John posted that the move was going to save some money.
Good luck on the transition.
Presumably, a browser with a bookmark for "freerepublic.com" will find the site, wherever it's located, as soon as the master incices for the internet are updated, which shouldn't take too long (unless everyone who does that chore is away for the holidays). Therefore, while you toil away to improve things, the rest of us can just wait it out, secure in the knowledge that we're in good hands. If I'm wrong in this, and if we need to do something special to locate the site, please let us know.
:)
Actually, the line is "Good luck. We're all counting on you."
And stop calling me Shirley.
Be prepared.

There was some problem with the DNS entries for FR a few months back. Some people put entries in their hosts file so they could get to FR without DNS. Hopefully they will all remember to change those entries when the new IP address is posted.
