Sen. Clinton says White House should turn over Enron documents By SHANNON McCAFFREY Associated Press Writer January 22, 2002, 12:13 PM EST WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who as first lady fought her share of battles over the release of documents, said Vice President Dick Cheney should release records Congress is seeking on the administration's energy policy meetings and Enron. "I think the request from the Congress should be dealt with," the New York Democrat told The Associated Press. She said the Clinton White House "certainly ended up dealing with a lot of requests and at the end of the day people could draw their own conclusions and I think that's what the public deserves." President Clinton and the first lady were investigated frequently by Congress on issues ranging from their failed Whitewater land deal, firings in the White House travel office and the president's affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. Prosecutors and congressional investigators were met with varying degrees of cooperation from the Clintons. Whitewater-related billing records from Hillary Clinton's Rose Law Firm were discovered by an aide in the White House living quarters some two years after they had first been subpoenaed. Cheney has said he met half dozen times with Enron executives while formulating the Republican administration's energy plan but has refused to turn over records of those and his other meetings on the plan. Last week, Clinton said she was donating almost $8,000 in contributions from Enron and its accounting firm Arthur Andersen LLP to an employee fund set up to help Enron employees. Clinton received $950 from Enron employees, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics. Her office said she also received $7,000 in donations from employees of Arthur Andersen. This has probably been discussed in great detail on other threads, but why doesn't the vice-president release his papers? If there is nothing controversial, it would greatly benefit him and would be the antithesis of the Clinton administration....Cheney is trying to defend the principle that the Executive Branch is entitled to meet with people and not have the details made public. If the Executive Branch can't have private discussions, then many of those discussions will never occur, and that's not a good thing. It's all embodied in Executive Privilege, and Cheney doesn't feel like compromising that away just because some Democrats want to make political hay out of it.
The truth is, Hillary and her cohorts probably don't want the details revealed, because there wouldn't be anything of interest revealed. They like making a stink about it far more.

Yes, they should check the table in the third-floor book room of the White House residence for the documents in oh, say, about a year or 2.

Thought I heard Mary Matalin say that they would turn over the records to a committee, if they were subpoenaed.I think that the WH wants a legal reason to turn over the records, not a Dem fishing expedition. They don't want to set a precedent which would allow Waxman and Hillary to demand every memo on WH operations, to use for political purposes.

It's the principle of the thing. The Commission was working for the President-- offering him advice and information. The President has a right to keep those things private (separation of powers). Dubya wants to keep the power he has and not give it to Congress on principle-- even if it looks bad.

As always, I believe Hillary has said nothing of substance on the tax cuts, grumbling about them, but never suggesting they be repealed.
She doesn't take stands on issues.

She should drop off the face of the earth.

Exactly. The White House should turn over ALL the papers, that is, if they can find them. It's such a huge place and things do have a habit of getting lost.
BTW, I'd love to see Bill's medical records.

Worth repeating again, I think this makes better since than anything else I have heard.

"Let us have the Senator Hillary information first."Absolutely. The Hildebeast is STILL sitting on the subpoened documents from all those illegal conferences she had on that ill-advised health care plan. Remember?
