I'm skeptical about the article. I did not find any news source quoted. This reads like an urban legend.
To: toenail
It wasn't that the video was late...it was that she rented Ishtar. :-)
To: GuillermoX
NO, obviously she needs to make restitution, no libertarian has ever tried to justify theft because of the size of the concern being robbed. The point is the apparent mis-allocation of police resources and miapplication of felony theft law to a petty theft. Got me to thinking about the RICO act being applied to pro-life protestors
To: toenail
16 paragraphs. Only 4 paragraphs descibe the event. 12 paragraphs of Libertarian rant. Note that RICO laws are discussed, but this Libertarian propaganda piece carefully avoids the discussion of their most popular use: abortion protesters.

That's the logical conclusion of your implications via your question.

I was late on a rental one time and kept getting notices. I thought for sure we had returned the tape.
Well, I've got one of those big entertainment armoire deals and it had fallen behind the TV.
Bill and Hillary Clinton can get away with nearly every misdemeanor and felony on the books,
but don't you dare be late taking back a rented movie.

Please-please...this is why we need the Realatarian Party---over/under-realitization is a crime...we need some fine tuning!

That's the logical conclusion of your implications via your question. No, it's not. That's simply the conclusion that you jumped to.

"So you posted this not to discuss the article, but simply to bash Libertarians. Bravo. You may have just garnered the stupid post of the day award." As a member of the Libertarian Party, I would like for the national HQ to be a little more intelligent about the issues they present, and they way in which they present them.

you nailed it, and I'll go a step further. The Libertarian Party could make a valuable contribution to society by serving as an intellectual guidepost for the Republican Party. But by insisting on orthodoxy, they opt out of the political system altogether. A great legacy of clearsighted political thinking is now regarded by one and all as a bunch of cranks relegated to a spoiler Loony Party. Rather than using libertarian ideas to inform the process of government, which would be a great contribution, the Libertarians insist on an ideological all-or-nothing stance that leaves them with nothing.

She apparently made no attempt at retribution because the warrant dated back to 1997. I'm certain the video store gave her ample opportunity to pay the fees incurred. When you're late with a Blockbuster video, they call over and over, then they write you...one can't say they didn't know.

In other news, the Libertarian Party national HQ is making progress on its goal to displace the Republican Party as "The Stupid Party." Indeed. I had to look twice to make sure that lead sentence didn't come from World Weekly News.
Somehow I suspect that there is much more to this story (if it's even true: link, anyone?) than the LP is willing to admit.

Then I apologize. I guess when you asked if others agreed with the arrest, you were seeking out those who agreed with you?
To: toenail
Stop insulting Libertarians. At least we don't sell out.
To: toenail
I'm sorry. By your answer I thought you were posting this in the fashion so many others do, simply to create a thread to bash Libertarians.

Apparently the Wacko Party doesn't think people should be arrested for theft.
To: GuillermoX
No, I was looking for clarification from the person who posted this and I got it.
To: riley1992
You mean we can't even bash Libraritarians?
I quit.
