The line item veto(a concept 99% of the people on FR would agree with) really got underserved credibility when Clinton signed it, didn't it.
Line item did not unite the Democrats and the press. CFR does. Different equation entirely, and if Bush signs it, it picks up steam.
Smart money says do the right thing and kill it today, and I hope he will.

And you want to give them an issue to get their legs back?
There is no reason to believe vetoing CFR would give them that. Unless you believe the press speaks for the majority of Americans. You must also naively believe the media won't be pushing for the Dems equally as ferociously in October regardless of CFR. I keep hearing how Bush needs to silence McCain - why? He beat the crap out of him in the primaries. He needs to silence the Dems? My God, he has 80 percent approval ratings, they're flailing away, let them whine. A principled veto here would clearly not have carried the day for Dems. Are you advocating that Bush should sign on to the next issue the Dems throw out there? Maybe you are, it does seem to be the Bush/Rove strategy. Pyrrhic victory...

If you get a chance to listen WABC which is streaming again, Theyre this duel on at 10pm, or after the games, john & paul One claims to be a republican and the other a democrat.
The Pub wrote a book "Aren't You Glad Your A Republican" Now I think it was tongue & cheek.
The two are so slick and slimy and bitchy and backbiting, go out their way to undermine Rush, the President, Rumfelds.
They talk about the man living in the White House, like Bush stole the Election yet when it was going on they were for Bush, because of the listeners were mainly Pubs.
They claim to be doing research but really are faultfinders, trying to undermine this nation.
SNAKE SALESMEN!!!!!

"The GOP would rather have SCOTUS do their dirty work." No, actually we would rather have SCOTUS do its job, which is to resolve questions of constitutionality. That's not the job of POTUS or Congress.

Who won the popular vote in the past three presidential elections -
the Dems Who has won House seats in the last three election cycles and was able to force a discharge petition over the Speaker of the House's objection with the help of a handful of Republicans - the Dems
Who went from a 55-seat Senate majority on Januray 1, 2000 to a 49-seat minority on June 6, 2001 - the Republicans

"The move is brilliant politically. He would love to come out and say this, but he can't. He is hoping we know this...."
Yeah, and I am "HOPING" for a conservative President.

Are you a democrat or just a disruptor?

...I support common-sense reforms to end abuses in our campaign finance system...
Watch for some more common-sense "gun safety" laws next.

"The steel tariff was a good idea." You can't always let market forces dictate policy. It doesn't hurt us strategically if TV's and cameras are made overseas but steel is not just for cars. It is for weapons. It's a strategic industry.
It would be equally bad to allow all food production to be done outside the united states if it could be done cheaply. We would be dropping our pants.

So, what responsibility does Congress and POTUS hold if it is not to protect the constitution? It does not just lie with SCOTUS.

I wonder how rintintin who posts the disgustingly sychophantic "A day in the life of George Bush" thread on this forum will spin this one if shrub signs this unconstitutional atrocity? Why don't you ask her? And it's rintense or Rosalyn.
To: Sabertooth
the Supreme Court says it is If the Supremes stick with their former case law logic [one of those oxy- things], they will strike down this reform act. Of course, we are talking case law, from a devolved indo-euro cognate root to logic.

I didn't vote for him in 2000, and I won't vote for him in 2004.

Maybe they will create a new federal bureau of speech enforcement. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for..." you know the rest.
To: over3Owithabrain
There is no reason to believe vetoing CFR would give them that. Yeah right. You know that there would a 4 week orgy by the press and Dashcle if he vetoed it. You know it.
