New Poll Shows McConnell Up by 3 in Kentucky With Overwhelming Tea Party Support
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | October 21, 2014 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Western Kentucky University's 2014 Big Red Poll released on Monday shows that incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) leads Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes by 3 points, 45% to 42%, among likely voters in the Kentucky U.S. Senate race. The poll, coming two weeks before election day, indicates the race is still close, despite numerous recent gaffes by Grimes and news that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has stopped funding television advertising in support of her candidacy.

5% of likely voters supported Libertarian David Patterson, and 8% were undecided.

The most surprising result of the poll is that, despite a bitter primary battle between Tea Party-endorsed Matt Bevin and McConnell, the Tea Party overwhelmingly supports McConnell over Grimes. "13% of those surveyed self-identified as members of the TEA Party." Among that group, McConnell "leads Grimes 87%-5%."

In addition "nearly a third (32%) of those who did not self-identify [as Tea Party members] indicated that they were sympathetic to the views expressed by the TEA Party." Among these Tea Party sympathizers, McConnell leads Grimes 70% to 21%....

Call that the "Grimes effect" I suppose. Like many of us supporting Milt & McInsane over Obama.

Time to get out and vote in as many Republicans as possible.

If America does not do it this time around, it may never get a second chance after Obama is finished with the country.

No kidding. I’m pretty sure a lot of people here can be thanked for not showing up in 2012. How did that work out for everyone? People need to learn. First you get it GOP. Then you weed out the RiNOs. In that effing order.

Someone should alert the media that the Tea Party is not as moribund as they would hope.

How anyone BUT the liberal MSM could equate adherence to Constitutional principles to such nonsense as racism clearly does not make sense to the average American.

Grimes is something I would do under the influence, not something I would vote for.

They can pick some other republican for majority leader ONLY IF repubs end up with 51+ seats. First things first.

Any Republican staying home on Election Day because they don’t like their candidate for whatever reason needs to find another party, or better yet another country. Anyone saying differently should be regarded as a left wing radical agent provocateur and treated as such.

It’s THAT serious.

If GOP does not end with 51 or more seats, I can guarantee Harry Reid will be again ML. Then none of the House bills favorable to conservatives will ever see the light of day.

I agree with you. Many such trolls here hoping to reduce republican turnout.

How many libertarians “self-identify as members of the TEA Party”, after all? Quite a few.

There sure are and they’re obvious. It isn’t working and they’re going away.

Mitch has done everything he can to destroy the tea party and the only thing he has going for him is how bad Obama, Reid, and Grimes are! If I lived in KY I might vote Libertarian if ballot access depended on 5% of the vote.

How does 21% who have Tea Party sympathies vote for Grimes, other than Mitch attacking them just pissed them off.

There are low information voters in every party.
If you watch Watter’s world on BOT’s show, it is an eye opener.
