Ames, Iowa - Donald Trump confirmed two things during a stop in this central Iowa town Saturday: He has no class and he may well run as an independent when he does not win the Republican nomination.
There had been considerable public evidence of both long before his appearance here today at the Family Leader Summit but Trump, who is leading several national polls of the Republican primary, erased any doubt with comments he made about Senator John McCain and a prospective independent bid.
Trump was answering questions from Republican pollster Frank Luntz on stage when he declared that John McCain, who spent six years as a POW in Vietnam, was not a war hero. Trump went on to express his preference for soldiers who weren’t captured, suggesting a belief that prisoners of war have some say in their captivity. Luntz had asked Trump about his reaction to McCain’s comment that Trump had stirred up the “crazies” with his candidacy. When Trump attacked McCain, Luntz asked if Trump was comfortable with that kind of criticism of a war hero.
“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” The comments clearly shocked the crowd at the summit, some of whom reacted with boos and shouts of condemnation.
McCain was shot down flying combat missions in Vietnam on October 26, 1967. He was taken captivity with a broken right leg and fractures in both arms. He was beaten and tortured repeatedly, in part because his father commanded the U.S. Navy in the Pacific....

Trump must not declare that he will not go third party if he fails to get the nomination! This is the only thing he can hold over the GOPe’s head to prevent whatever evil schemes they have in the works to deny him the nomination.

I serves in V-NAM, and Trump is right. Getting captured does not make you a war hero. Getting captured ,in itself, is not heroic. Heroes get captured and so do scumbag traitors like that puke from Sun Valley Idaho.
What does that have to do with a draft dodger denigrating a pow? McCain baited him and Trump stepped on his Johnson. But Trump has brought illegals to the forefront which is a good thing but if he can’t handle McCain he can’t handle the Clinton’s.
If it comes down to Hillary, Bush or Trump, I’m pulling the lever for Trump.
I don’t know anything about this author, but I don’t agree with his conclusions regarding Trump.

Trump runs a few enterprises that employ hundreds of people and pay millions of dollars in Federal taxes that McCain helps spend to the tune of Trillions of Dollars. IOW, Trump is useful and McCain is not.
I just visited the Flight museum in Seattle this weekend.
There was this exhibit of the “Red Baron”, the greatest combat pilot who ever lived. He shot down 80 enemy fighter planes! McCain shot down ZERO enemy planes. The Red Baron was never captured. McCain was captured on his first or second combat mission.
Yeah I would say Red Baron was a hero, McCain was son of an Admiral in the Navy, and graduated at exact bottom of his class in the war college.
One of the problems is the word “hero” was been used too casually for too long, so that it’s original meaning has been diminished.
I applaud McCain for serving his country. I honor him for his sacrifice as a POW. But that does not make him a hero.
Bob Kerrey of Nebraska was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, and was labeled a hero, but when one reads of his exploits one gets the idea that he did not deserve the CMO, and that he was not, in the true sense, a hero. But he should be applauded for what he did do.
A hero is one who willfully gives his or her life to save another, or does something so extraordinary and courageous that his or her actions are such that only one in several millions of people could or would have done them. McCain does not meet that standard. Indeed, many people whom we have casually labeled “hero” do not meet that standard.
Still, Trump should have phrased his comment differently, or should have refrained from making the comment to begin with.

I’m not going to argue Trump’s positions on the important issues he has raised. Like you I agree with him on those issues, even his McCain comments to a large extent.
But I draw the line with the 3rd Party threat. What Trump is saying is that if he can’t win the Republican nomination then he will guarantee a Dem victory in 2016. There is ZERO chance that Trump would win running 3rd Party. ZERO.
Who needs that? Who needs a spoiled vindictive child for President?
You mean the jobs he farmed out to China and Bangladesh, manufacturing his clothing lines?
Oh, or do you mean the construction jobs on his buildings here in the U.S.? The ones that he farmed out the hiring to his contractors and sub-contractors, who then turned around and hired illegals?
Trump talks a very good game, and says important things about some important issues. But I don’t trust him one bit, and a quick look at his past explains why.
