Arkansas and Arizona both start with an “A” and are in flyover country. Easy to mix up.
Maybe its the rage, stupid. Or more specifically, the animosity toward immigrants, even though America used to be held up as a beacon for oppressed people around the world.
Not "immigrants" and it never was. "Illegal immigrants". Criminals. Law-breakers who have been given a pass and sanctified by a commentariat that apparently can't see the difference. Of course the country was built on immigration. Legal immigration. Controlled immigration. Names being changed at Ellis Island. Respect for, not contempt for the flag.
Point two is so obvious even an academic might see it, but nary a mention: Hillary's decades-long participation in graft and political chicanery that has netted the Clinton Foundation some $437 million. Her open and shameless bribery. Her disastrous performance as Secretary of State. People may or may not notice the espionage activities centering around a clandestine email server but they do notice four dead Americans and an administration backing away and blaming someone else. That does not enhance a candidate's appeal any more than her ovaries do. That last is perhaps the most ridiculous bit of analysis in the piece - vote for her because she's a woman? As if there have never been women in American politics before? This, from a credentialed political scientist?
The appeal that remains mysterious to Gruber is simple - Sanders and Trump are Not That. They can be almost anything else but they are Not That, and suddenly Business As Usual has begun to stink so badly that the voters are quite simply flying from it holding their noses. At some point one might think Gruber would notice, but when you're part of the problem you don't notice the stench.
I LOVE that Trump sticks to the truth no matter what. I was disappointed in Newt who was on Chris Wallace today and said he didn’t like that Trump called the judge a Mexican when he is an American citizen. Sometimes Newt doesn’t quite get it—yet.
“Maybe its the rage, stupid. Or more specifically, the animosity toward immigrants, even though America used to be held up as a beacon for oppressed people around the world. That used to be why America was great. “
This is why he will continue to get it wrong... smug arrogance, not a scientist just another leftist pundit.
As a political scientist, I feel I owe you an apologyI forgive you for being a political scientist. But are you repenting of it, or just feeling brief regret?
I’ve given up on Newt ever getting it. He’s too old and has had so many times when he could’ve chosen the right path on illegals.

All the guy is saying is “Please, hire me again in the future!”
They’re also not ‘getting’ the fact that Clinton’s life-long dishonesty, power-hunger and viciousness cause many to feel that - whatever happens - the election of Trump can’t possibly result in a worse outcome than a Hillary presidency will.
Funny.
And Herself has never done such a thing.
“That makes 1760th pundit who guessed it wrong”
Indeed, and about the 500th mea culpa article during the last 10 days from one of said wrong-guessing pundits.
What’s interesting is that so many are fessing up this early in the game, instead of waiting a couple of days before the actual election, while in the meantime maintaining that Crooked Hillary was going to win up until almost the bitter end.
It’s interesting to note that many are quoting Scott Adams. Even MORE interesting would be to know the real motivations for fessing up this early. I suppose some feel such failed punditry all the way up to the bitter end could be the final blow of any shred of remaining credibility that they have. In the old days of total mainstream media monopoly, credibility didn’t matter because there was no competition and no alternative means to discover the truth. But the Internet has changed all of that, showing that most of these pundits have no clothes.
Nonetheless, it would be interesting to know some of the factual reasons they’ve switched from “Hillary landslide” to “Trump’s going to win”. For example, is it possible that practically everyone they know who should be solidly in the tank for Hillary has sidled up to them and secretly whispered in their ears that they’re gonna vote for Trump?
Today, most scientists ARE political!
Gruber still doesn’t get it. He wants to assign insidious and evil motives to that which HE doesn’t understand. Couldn’t possibly be that we want to protect ourselves our families and heritage and don’t buy into his utopian vision that up until now has been wrecking havoc on nations.
Well, that’s as far as I got too.
Then I realized I was reading a Newsweek article, and closed the page.
We are way past anger. Many people sense that this is it-the last chance for the Republic. Trump is just the vessel, perhaps the right man at the right time. If the dems prevail it is over. Violence and evil will increase. Anyone of any group who dares to depart from their plans will suffer. Civil war, revolution, balkanization, who knows. We are at the precipice.
The Republican base may never have been especially welcoming toward Hispanics or Muslims, but Trumps candidacy has tapped into a well of hostility toward these groups, a ferocity of nativist sentiment, that took political scientists by surprise.
Wrong!
The apology was bait to get you to read leftist propaganda. I'm encouraged at how spectacularly they continue to get it wrong.
Go Trump Go!
Not to worry Lloyd. Every time I see a "Political Scientist" quoted as some type of expert (on any subject), I know my BS Meter will be pegged on maximum.
Sane people never took you seriously up to this point and will never do so in the future.
Enjoy your "safe space" lifestyle Lloyd.
Politics isn’t a science.
I tried to listen to this and couldn’t. There seemed to be 4 or more different audio’s going at the same time. I stopped the one at the bottom of the page but it still was a jumble of audio’s.
