Ocasio-Cortez Praises New Zealand's Weapons Ban

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised the leadership shown by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on the issue of gun control in the wake of the deadly Christchurch mosque shootings by a white supremacist.

Ardern announced that, as a result of the far-right terror attack which left 50 people dead and dozens more injured, some critically, New Zealand will ban a swathe of what she called “military-style” weapons and parts that allow other guns to be converted.

Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat and rising star in the party, drew a comparison with the lack of action on gun control in America after mass shootings, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre which killed 26, of which there is an epidemic in the country.

I have this discussion with people all the time when they ask me (because I’m a hunter) why can’t we do that here? It’s amazing to me that they don’t know why.

I tell them, none of these other countries have a constitutional amendment allowing citizens to arm themselves like the US does. It’s an impediment they don’t have to hurdle.

Then I tell them, until some Pol somewhere stands up and says we should repeal or amend the 2nd Amendment, I won’t take anything anyone says from either side seriously. It’s all part of the game.

Guns are the red herring for the Dems as Abortion is the red herring for the GOP. Neither is going away and I think my old jaded self says, that’s exactly the way the Pols want it.

Always after a crime they suddenly call for bans on the weapon, making owners who have never committed a crime now criminals in their own homes.

They fail to understand that the criminal will simply go to the next available one for his crime.

She (and other Democrat hacks) do not want you to know that the perp allegedly got his New Zealand firearms licence using only online chatroom friends as references and that he was not interviewed as also required under New Zealand law in order to obtain such a licence.

Therefore, the laws that were already in place should have stopped this person from legally acquiring his firearms in the first place had they been properly enforced. This is something that seems to be a common pattern behind many mass shooting tragedies; laws on the books at the time that should have stopped the perpetrator(s) but did not because they were not properly enforced.
