Just what the heck IS a "Geneva Overholser" anyway.
Sounds like a fancy drink in a Swiss gay bar.

And very recently, Gartner tried to get the taxpayers of Dubuque to build a stadium for his MLB team. He and his local boosters did everything but stage a fake pickup explosion to get the issue passed, but couldn't get the job done (this time, anyway).
Like John Culver and Tom Harkin, Gartner is a chronic hemorrhoid that Iowans can't bring themselves to treat. I'm reasonably pleased that Ms. Overholser is currently in Missouri instead of Iowa, but I suppose she may turn up in Iowa City or Ottumwa when Mizzou is tired of her.

That is a very old picture of her. It was taken when she and Hillary were together at Wellesley!!!! She was class of '70, HRC was '69.

But Geneva Overholser, formerly ombudsman at the Washington Post and currently a professor of journalism at the University of Missouri, told USA Today Hume doesn't deserve the award because he practices "ideologically connected journalism." To make her point, Overholser resigned from the NPF board, saying: "Fox wants to do news from a certain viewpoint, but it wants to claim that it is 'fair and balanced.' That is inaccurate and unfair to other media who engage in a quest, perhaps an imperfect quest, for objectivity."
OMG, the sheer chutzpah is almost physically painful. The 'other media' to which she refers, is overwhelmingly biased to the left.
Most of the liberals that I know just aren't capable of stepping outside their own politics and critically assessing what they're looking at. Even to the most egregious and blatant left wing venom from the print and electronic media just makes them shrug and say, "looks fair to me.".
If a Republican and a Democrat commit exactly the same act of questionable integrity, the 'other media' will hound the Rebublican and give the Democrat a pass. One need look no farther than the coverage of the Clinton administration to see that.

Wait a minute, isn't Ms. Overholser's resignation "ideologically connected?" Excellent point.

LOL! That list (except for Arledge, Brinkley and Lamb) might as well be a who's who for the Media Research Center.

Not sure, but I don't think Brinkley was a lefty, at least not in the last few years of his life.

Overholser OverhauledAccusations of Media Bias in the Jesse Dirkhising Case
Columnist and former newspaper editor Geneva Overholser (2000), while admitting that the accusation of bias has enough elements of truth to cow journalists into almost being convinced and that the press is persistently unfair to fundamentalist Christians, says that in general the media operate by zigs and zags, rushing from one side of the ship to the other to balance it. Overholser also argues (Barrett, 1999) that the medias biases are not linked to ideology but toward negativity and convention: Whatever the prevailing view is, thats what will drive our reporting.
