THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (It's here!!).. Live thread!

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (A HIT OR A MISS?).. Live thread!

Contrary to popular media pronouncements, the first of the commercial showing of this long awaited, landmark, and controversial film has already debuted and the misconceptions that the fate of this endeavor hangs in the balance.. That is HOGWASH.. The Passion of the Christ is on the brink of a record breaking opening, in spite of the limited available screens, and the all out, and outragous efforts on the part of the National Media's near unanimous rejection, and the Hollywood establishment roadblocks to stymie this motion picture and it's brilliant and courageous director/producer..

I just receive a call from friends that attended a church sponsored midday showing of the movie with more than 850 of their fellow flock. The collective response was "it was sobering and breathtaking, and they existed with a profound feeling of moral inadequacy".

I toyed with the idea of accepting an invitation to book a private showing at a local theater for this weekend, however after calling a few local churches to help fill the seats I discovered that all (I call 12) of the parishes and neighborhood churches had already secured their own private dates with sellout crowds.. Every one of them had sold the seats within a day of their announcements... I just may book a threater in three weeks for all of my friends and family, that wish to watch it again, and again..

Well, your attitude is a liberal one....."why can't we just all get along."

There are times to debate.

THE TRUTH OF GOD IS NOT A SMALL MATTER, not one to just say "oh well, you believe that but I don't. Oh well." It is one where we should debate as believers, discuss, to try to ensure that we have the right beliefs.

There is a reason Paul told Timothy to make sure his doctrine was correct. With incorrect doctrine, it is much more difficult to grow in our faith. If one says "Just give me Jesus; I don't need doctrine," they show how ultimately arrogant they really are by thinking somehow they have the ability to grow just by "having Jesus" without understanding who Jesus is! Doctrine is simply what Scripture teaches, and that includes that Jesus is the Son of God, the God-man who came down to save his elect from their sins. If you say "Just give me Jesus" like some do, that is very dangerous. The Jesus that person may believe in is not necessarily the Jesus of the Scripture, but could be a Mormon Jesus or something. The person who does not have a right understanding of Christ....the doctrine of Christ....is not saved.

Doctrine is a weighty weighty matter, not one to be dismissed like so many today in our non-thinking churches.

HOWEVER, end of rant......I agree that at least in the case of the Passion, we are not supposed to be arguing all the time about the film. This is not a time for arguing (at least excessively.....there is room for some serious examination, debate, and discussion even now). But, when the film comes out tonight, hopefully there will not be big Catholic-Prot debates in the theaters (I doubt that).

>>Do you not read your Scripture? Do not engage in vain repetition, which Jesus Christ condemns as sinful.<<

Again,PLEASE! This thread is about the movie (and I have to say I fell into the trap myself when I became defensive). Take your opinion to the Religion Forum.

I do not have a ticket yet and want to see the opinions of the people here on the movie, not your condemnation of religous beliefs, pretty, pretty please.

Well, when my husband I go, we'll do something. Dunno yet. But I know a box of Kleenex will be mandatory.

This movie will be fine for a normal healthy 10 year old boy. I would have taken my boys to see it as 10 yr olds. It will be a sobering experience for him to see the bible come alive.

If the movie is huge I may get to see it. The next time I can get into civilization is in April. If it's already gone by then I hope for an early release of the DVD.

For now, I will watch the movie vicariously through the typing of FReepers.

Carlo---

Your simple statement affirms my desire to see it.

I wish those of a dark heart would open their eyes, minds, and heart to understand and accept this wondrous gift.

Is Alaska that remote? I don't think I would like that.

I love being "away from it all".. but 2 months away from movies is TOO FAR AWAY FROM IT ALL FOR ME!

Since it seems that most of the kids in this formative age group (14-18) are also more conservative in nature, I find that this cinematographic experience might be a might make a profound turning point for many a young adult.

Your kids are an example of it.

Use your own prayerful judgement. If your child has been raised on Christian Scripture, and understands that what he will be witnessing will be like nothing he has ever seen, and is willing to talk it out with you, so be it.

Thanks to Mel Gibson's masterpiece "The Passion of the Christ" my faith has been reborn. How could anyone that actually sees this movie walk out thinking of anything other than the world change in a better way because Christ died on the cross.

Mel Gibson succeeded in putting me in that moment in time.. Breathtaking, moving, frightening, faltering, and a total affirmation of my faith...

Good morning Carlo! Thank you for the ping to this wonderful thread about our dear Lord. I can't wait to see this movie. What you have just said about your Faith being reborn is really a testimony as to how powerful this movie is. It will undoubtedly bring many to Christ who have never known Him as their Savior. Be Blessed my FRiend. :) Kristy

The main cities in Alaska are just like any other city in the lower 48.

However, my job has me working at an old Air Force base deep in the interior. I live in the old barracks and eat in the old chow hall (room and board is free). The only way in and out of here is by air and a weekend trip into Fairbanks or Anchorage runs about $600 so I don't go "into town" unless I absolutely have to. Since I have an orthodontic appointment every 6-8 weeks, the next time I "absolutely have to" go into town is April 3rd. Hopefully I can see "The Passion of the Christ" at that time.

It's not that bad, I have satellite internet so I can listen to talk radio, I have satellite TV, I have regular mail service so my hobbies are easily supported.

The town of Galena has anywhere from 400-700 people depending on if school is in session. (A charter school for lots of kids from all over the bush is located on the old base).

It's not too bad, but some things people take for granted aren't nearby (like theaters). :-)

Don
