CBS' “new” Bush guard memos a hoax (Update w/ conclusive proof of forgeries!)

(scroll down to the bottom of the article for the update section):

UPDATE: NEW PROOF OF FORGERY

Following the Little Green Footballs blog lead, CB decided to test the pantograph replication technique on another of the CBS documents to see if it held true. Using Microsoft Word on its factory default settings with 12 point Times New Roman font we copied the address line of CBS memo #1 and overlapped the two for comparison.

As you can see the test worked and, in doing so, inadvertantly uncovered more proof that the document is a forgery. The new evidence revolves around the fact that Microsoft Word auto-formats its text using the centering function. When the text alignment for “center” is selected each subsequent line will be precisely centered underneath the previous one with each word of the text readjusting to meet this alignment as new letters are entered into the line. Since typewriters mechanically stamp letters onto a sheet of paper one at a time, it is physically impossible to create a mechanical typewriter document that perfectly aligns two or more centered rows of text on top of each other. The address bar on CBS Memo #1 is perfectly centered and perfectly aligned, thus it had to have come from a computer word processor and not a typewriter. The replication experiment in Microsoft Word with an identical match further validates this origin.

That old "commie" Tom Harkin should be tossed out of the senate.

In all fairness, back in the stone ages we used to center on mechanical typewriters all the time. It's just that the typist did the math rather than having the computer figure it out.

Another way of settling this debate about whether this could have been centered manually, go back and look at the second line of the address. See the "P" in "P.O. Box..."? If the "P" had been manually centered, then it would have to be aligned with either the left-hand edge of the "g" or the "h" in the word "Fighter" above it. Instead, the left edge of the "P" is centered between the "g" and "h". This doesn't normally happen with typewriters now, does it.

OH it just gets better,a lie is a lie.
The thing about lies is it has to be told the same way exactly each time.

Has anyone seen the letter praising Lt Bush after this letter has supposibly was published? By the same killian?
Anyone wanna find it and compare type sets?

Well which part is fiction, and which truth? He didn't say? How would he know this?

Brit didn't elaborate, but there's a recent post about it. ABC did a piece on it which goes into some detail, which I haven't read yet. It's posted here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1211441/posts

Hey thank you so very much for the recap of the panel at the end of Brit's newshour! I really appreciate your effort-it isn't easy listening to the radio, following a thread and watching a television program....all at the same time! Good recall! LOL And thanks again!

"Democratic Party, CBS News and Dan Rather CAUGHT RED-HANDED perpetrating a fraud!!"

There is a second aspect to this story besides the media lies that I think bears pointing out. From a political standpoint, this fraud, democrat connections or not, will tend to innoculate Bush from further charges about his Guard service and things he may have done in his past. Any attacks on Bush's past that the 'rats are cooking up are going to be seen through the prism of this scandal.

I can't stop smiling either. A co-worker just came by and mentioned how happy I was today!!!

I am sure someone will come up with it. I have been thinking during this vicious election cycle that Old Media was really going out on a limb for Kerry and the DNC. Now Dan Rather has gone and sawed it off! ROFL!!

It must really suck today to be a Democrat.

It must really suck every day to be a democrat.

I hope the RATS utterly sink after this latest criminal act.

Barnes on FNC said something about it being interesting that the doc without the superscript had a space between the number and the "th". Possibly so the word processing program wouldn't automatically create the supercript. Maybe that explains why the differences in the use of the supercript. Boy, it looks to me like someone wanted this to caught.

I honestly just think it's the arrogance of the DNC and the eagerness of their mouthpieces in the MSM. At any rate it's nice to once again expose the "news" as a lie.

you wrote: Interesting, though, that the example above does not feature the 'superscript' font that they've been questioning all day(?)

That was further down in the first memo, not in the address at the top.

I see.

Wasn't aware it was needed -- but in any case thank you for clearing all of that up.

It must have otherwise been a bit of a worry for you?

I saw Barnes say that about the space and the 'th'. It's a good point, but if you're a regular user of MS word you can turn that auto format function off in system preferences.

The good thing that will come of this is that the Today show may think twice about having Kitty Kelly on. If this thing brings Rather and 60 minutes to it's knees, NBC may not want to risk the same fate.

Another question is why the "th" in the top isn't superscripted but at the #2 point, it is.

I haven't read through the whole thread so I don't know if someone's answered you yet but:

Frequent users of Word know that if you make a mistake like leaving out a "th" and use the arrow keys to go back to the spot and type "th" then arrow back down to where you were, the "th" will not automatically superscript.

You have to type the "th" and then hit the spacebar to make it auto-superscript.

You can try it if you have Word 2000 or higher.  Type "111 Fighter" then use the arrows to go back to "111".  Type the "th" and then use the arrow to tab back over to the end of the sentence:  the "th" will stay "lower" script.

I think the forger of the document forgot the "th" and went back and fixed it without hitting the space bar to set the superscript.

60 Minutes stands by their report. Let's see, what else could they do? Fire the idiots who forged this stuff? Heads should roll, obviously. This forgery is unbelievably dumb. No time to find an old typewriter, which could be traced, so just type it out on a computer. They could say that the original documents were damaged or lost in a fire, but luckily, they'd written down the info. Fearing they wouldn't be believed, they quickly recopied everything on a computer. So CBS could say the contents are real, just forget that they're forged. Let's run that up the flagpole and see who salutes.

Unfortunately for CBS and Kerry, not only are the documents obviously forged, Killian's son says they're phony and that no one in the military would keep them hidden...you'd be crazy to pull a stunt like that. It's a blatant, vicious pack of lies. But when you listen to Gore and Edwards and Kerry and TerAYsa, it's major mud slinging every day. PLus the surrogates, Harkin, Susan Estrich, etc. Hill, Bill, Geraldine Ferraro, Cuomo, Fat Teddy, et al..

This forgery could be the brainchild of the Clintonistas, hired to head up Kerry's staff last weekend. Maybe a clever trick to sink Kerry. Hmmm. Just a thought.

Fox ran a video of Kerry and his pals filmed in '71 or '73, when Kerry's group coached people to go in front of congress and lie. They're shown laughing and cooking up phony accounts of widespread Vietnam atrocities. I guess we won't see that on CBS.
