How I solved my stolen Bush/Cheney sign problem

Posted on 10/14/2004 8:27:02 AM PDT by Infantry Grunt 1968-69

For the last few days I've been treating a big fireant bed in my front lawn here in Houston. Treat it one day, it just moves to a new location by the next day. Also have lost two Bush/Cheney signs this week. When I got my new sign I decided to pound it as hard as possible into that big ant bed and the black gumbo soil below. When I went to get the paper at 4:30 this morning I noticed the sign was laying in the grass. Not stolen like before but flung a few feet from the ant bed. I can just imaging someone planting themselves firmly and pulling up as hard as possible - until all those little critters found their way up his pant legs.

I thought about running a wire to my sign and wiring it, like a cattle fence, with a medium charge. Not enough to hurt them but strong enough to jolt the hell out of them.

A friend of mine has had his sign stolen twice. When he reported it to the local police they suggested he put fishhooks around the frame (preferably treble hooks) so when they grabbed the sign they would get a hand full of hooks. Since most signs are stolen at night, that just might work...

Ingenious! Wish we had those critters in Virginia (ours are rather anemic). Too bad the video camera wasn't set up.

I am not allergic to poison ivy. I might rub some poison ivy all over my sign. Hopefully the thief IS allergic to it BIG TIME! None of my kids are allergic to it, my kids aren't, my younger sister isn't, my dad wasn't. My husband and my older sister are allergic to poison ivy big time. I could wear plastic gloves - just to be careful. Could also spread a little honey on the steak and some sugar all round. That SHOULD bring more fireants.

The police suggested that!? I've seen that idea on FR before, but some were questioning the legality of it.

"I am not allergic to poison ivy. I might rub some poison ivy all over my sign."

LOL, not a bad idea. I, however, would not be able to get within 10 feet of your sign (not that I would do anything to damage it, obviously).

I was thinking buck urine around the edges of the sign where someone would grab it would do the trick. Can get that from hunting supply stores.

"We have resorted to code in my neighborhood. Dems have signs, Bushies fly US flags. There are quite a few US flags flying, and I have yet to see a Kerry sign and a US flag on the same property."

You know, I have noticed the same thing! I even commented on that to my wife. I did see one house that had a k/e sign with a flag, but it is very uncommon. I proudly fly an American flag, I have a Bush/Cheney sign, and both of my cars have Busch/Cheney bumper stickers and Support our troops magnetic ribbons.

One year our local farmer put his BUSH/QUAYLE sign just inside his electric fence for keeping the cows in the front pasture.

Worked too, the sign was safe!!! Altho clearly there were attempts......

Well it grows all over the place here so I guess you can't come in my yard at all. Call before you come and we will clear a path for you. The stuff grows like Kudzu here.
