If it's still this close the weekend before Election Day, then I will go out from NYC to Jersey to volunteer.
FYI: I just heard from the Chicago Tribune. This Sunday, they're going to publish my letter thanking them for endorsing the President. I wrote about how I had been a Democrat but now, after witnessing the horrors of Sept.11,I am voting for Bush.

When they publish it please post it on FR..

Admittedly, it's a quick and dirty litmus test. But I like it and I think it gives an idea of where things are going. VA is solidly GOP, NJ is solidly Democrat. If either change columns, then something is up.

Even if Bush is even with Kerry in NJ on election day, he won't be able to overcome the fraud that NJ is famous for. I don't expect to see NJ as a red state on Nov. 3. Don't discount NJ. This could be the difference in the election.
A poll was done in Hudson County, which has been a DemocRAT stronghold since forever. However, Jersey City elected for two terms, a Republican Mayor (where elections are non-partisan--because there are only RATS)
Bret Shundler was the mayor until he ran for Gov. Bret won by two of the largest margins of victory in the city's history.
Secondly, Jersey City (and all of the northern counties in NJ) was dramatically impacted by 9/11. SECURITY IS the number 1 issue.
From recent polls, it appears that Bush is polling well in North Jersey, but doing poorly in southern Jersey. This could be an "economy" issue. He was polling in the high 30's.
I was pissed that he went to the south, rather than the northern part of our state. The north is far more densely populated.
He needs another trip here, but come to central or north jersey.
Someone mentioned that it forces Kerry to spend time and money in NJ...this is a huge point. This is an "A" media market...ad $$$$ are expensive...more so than any other market in the country...sandwiched by NY and Philly.
NJ is a real possibility.

I will, but my only hesitation is that it will include my real name. How do others deal with loss of anonymity here ?

Hard to believe. But if true its lights out for Kerry!

Well I've lived and worked in NJ for the last 26 years and I agree with you. There is no way Bush is taking this state. I do estimates for a living and I see a good cross-section of the middle class. There is a lot of hatred out there for Bush.
Between the liberals and the fraud, I'd say that if Bush gets to within 7 points on election day then he made huge inroads here.
We are a commuter state and sent hundreds of thousands of people through WTC everyday. I don't understand it, but the average Jerseyan only needs the smallest evidence to believe Kerry will be a capable military leader. They care much more about gay marriage, abortion rights and universal health care than they do about the military. I wouldn't be surprised if NJ were low on the list of states with a high percentage of veterans living here.
Having said that..... My brother, who is also a long term New Jerseyan thinks NJ is going to be the dark horse victory in this election for Bush.
At least 11/2 will be interesting ;-)

He is? Hmmm. Maybe I'll fly out there and buy him the biggest, fattest, greasiest, gooiest cheese steak that money can by.

Just don't post your real name when you post the letter......XXXXXXX it out.

No offense, but, born and raised and lived there till I was 35. Damn glad to be out of there.
And I agree, the corruption machine will be working at double time overtime. If Bush can't win by at least 5%, which is unlikely, I think it's pretty unlikely he'll be able to overcome the 5-point corruption factor.
Remember, this is the state that allowed an illegal candidate switch recently (by judicial approval).

I have been saying here for at least a week, maybe more, that if Bush loses NJ by three or less, or even wins it, uncork the champagne and don't worry about what's happening out west.
It's over.
He lost this state by 16 in 2000, so if it's close, he'll hold every state he won previously and quite a few more.

Bush, grab Giuliani and get up to North Jersey now! It's time to drive this one home!

I'm in NJ and feel that the President has an excellent chance of reelection here.
I had a Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program crew doing some work on a project this week and 2 urban African American guys asked me who I was going to vote for. I told them President Bush. One of the guys couldn't believe it and said he liked Kerry but thought he was gay. The other guy said he wouldn't vote for Kerry because Kerry is a p*ssy and would get us all killed.
I thought it was a pretty funny and enlightening exchange.
The most disturbing thing one of them said was that there is a rumor going around that Republicans are going to take away black peoples right to vote in 3 years. I told him that was BS but he was pretty adamant about it.

This is all just ducky, but if Bush des not win OH PA FL it won't matter anyway.
And it does not look very promising in those three because it is SO CLOSE.
AND add voter fraud and we have causes to be concerned....
