The baby is encased in the womb. The womb is a phenomenal MUSCLE. One can witness sharp (elbows, knees) or round objects (head, buttock) at times of a baby in the womb.. but this kind of definition ....? Don't usually get this high definition and because of the MUSCULAR matter of the womb. The best "baby" definition features I've seen on pregnant woman has been with women carrying multiple babies -- the WOMB (muscle) get very stretched, and therefore thinner, and ergo, better definitions emerge of the baby(s) "impressions" from within the womb.

I think it's a pretty cool photo! :)

I think there is alot of strong arguements that it is a fake.

The problem I have with that, is whether the poster intended it or not (and he has not posted any rebuttals), I personally don't like FreeRepublic used for false propaganda type items.

The truth has enough beauty to stand by itself. Lies and deception detract from it.

Snopes is not infallible. I've checked them on some stuff about Hitlery Clintoon that I had read from various reliable sources, that snopes claimed was false.

Snopes has a liberal bias, so go figure.

I most definitely saw my 12 pound daughter's heel like that. Not her toes but, most certainly her heel!

Plus it's anatomically impossible for it to show.

Could you explain this?

The uterine wall is heavily muscled. It has to be to support the fetus and to expel it at birth.
The wall of the body cavity is also heavily muscled to support the weight of the internal organs.
There is at least an inch and most probably two inches of muscle, plus skin, fat and other stuff between the baby and the surface.

Even with a fake photo it does have some value.
What it implies to actually show is cool.
MAYBE seeing it would make some women stop and think.

You may see an occasional bulge depending on the baby's position, but you could never see that kind of detail unless the uterus and body cavity have both ruptured letting the foot protrude, and we are looking at a corpse.

Imagine how your wife felt with that going on!

Oh, she was thrilled. It took us nine years to have a baby. Unfortunately, complications kept her on bedrest for the last 19 weeks of the pregnancy (from 17w to delivery at 36w). BTW, here's an ultrasound image of our daughter's foot at 34w (one of my favorites):

The toes are to the upper left and the heel is in the lower right. Big toe at 12 o'clock.

From the Ultrasound study Umbilical vessels: visualization , the thickness of the maternal abdominal wall was obtained. It averaged 24 mm, with a standard deviation of 8 mm. This means that 16 mm is possible, or 0.6 inches. Since much of the thickness in many maternal abdominal walls is fat, a particularly low body fat percentage mother could have an even thinner abdominal wall. An abdominal wall thinner than ½ inch would be possible. Could this much toe definition make it through ½ inch of skin and muscle? I don’t know.

Other data collected on each patient included the patient"s weight (her recalled weight from her last clinic visit), abdominal wall thickness (measured from the skin surface to the interior uterine wall)

Results:

Maternal abdominal wall thicknes: 24 mm ( Standard deviation +/- 8 mm)

The toe thing is really a joke. Not enough strength in the toes to do that!

Now doggoneit! When my son would kick, I saw a bulge on my tummy........but I'm skeptical about this pic. Hmmm, it might happen if she had skin thin as an onion peel.........hehehehehe.

I grabbed my daughters foot when she pushed on me like that...I saw a bump on the surface of my tummy, but nowhere near the detail like in this pic.

When I grabbed her foot...it made her really mad at me, and she kicked me for a long time before she finally settled down and got went to sleep!
