UN's Jan Egeland Responds to Freeper Email
Free Republic ^ | December 28, 2004

Earlier today, responding to these remarks by the UN's Jan Egeland

But U.N. Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Egeland suggested that the United States and other Western nations were being "stingy" with relief funds, saying there would be more available if taxes were raised.

"It is beyond me why are we so stingy, really," the Norwegian-born U.N. official told reporters. "Christmastime should remind many Western countries at least, [of] how rich we have become."

"There are several donors who are less generous than before in a growing world economy," he said, adding that politicians in the United States and Europe "believe that they are really burdening the taxpayers too much, and the taxpayers want to give less. It's not true. They want to give more."

I sent this email to Jan Egeland

You seem to be under the impression that the ONLY way that individuals can donate money to charities and disasters is if the government TAKES the money from them in the form of taxes and gives it to YOU.

Leaving aside the fact that the UN is the last place I want MY government to give money (see Oil for Food scandal), we don't need to be taxed into giving. The United States is a generous country and we WILL give a lot of money to this cause; we're just not going to give it to YOU to spend as you see fit.

The people who really need and deserve the money will get it, without you having the opportunity to cut your slice off of it.

P.S. Forget about a UN and/or world tax; it's not going to happen.

Here is my quick e-mail to Egeland,

"Mr. Egeland,

I am writing to express my deep disgust for your recent comments, which I have seen in full context, concerning the supposed stinginess of “rich” nations. The so-called “rich” nations you refer to are basically the only UN member states that provide substantial international aid. Without these stingy nations the UN would have naught in terms of monetary and non-monetary aid. Although I whole-heartedly disagree with your conclusions regarding the giving nature of “rich” nations I would implore you and your fellow UN bureaucrats to keep on running your mouths and insulting the cows from whose utters you suck. You and your ilk can only aid in the efforts of patriotic Americans in disassociating our nation from your corrupt, ineffectual, and anti-American “organization”."

Good for you! And what you said was SPOT ON.

We are very generous and we'll give to the agencies providing the aid directly.

My dear, you were far too nice to the man.

His comments about what a great job he's been doing is too over the top.

There are NO UN agencies doing anything successfully.

He ought to know that he hurt the cause tremendously with his mean spirited comments. Many will not even consider donating now that they've been so unfairly characterized.

Guess they'll just have to dip into the money they scammed from the Food for Oil program.

BTW, leave it to that snarky dingbat, Ceci Connelly, to take up the UN's clarion call that the U.S. is indeed "stingy".

I saw her on Fox today twice, and twice this was her message.

"You may call us "stingy," but we call you and the UN "wasteful".........and downright corrupt. "

Hey. We agree again. We better not keep this up. Isn't there something to argue about? :)

Excellent work! E-mails like yours will make them sit up and take notice. Although they will probably continue their sculduggery, at least they won't be polluting the airwaves with their obnoxious comments!
