UN's Jan Egeland Responds to Freeper Email
Free Republic ^ | December 28, 2004

Posted on 12/28/2004 4:11:38 PM PST by Howlin

Earlier today, responding to these remarks by the UN's Jan Egeland

But U.N. Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Egeland suggested that the United States and other Western nations were being "stingy" with relief funds, saying there would be more available if taxes were raised.

"It is beyond me why are we so stingy, really," the Norwegian-born U.N. official told reporters. "Christmastime should remind many Western countries at least, [of] how rich we have become."

"There are several donors who are less generous than before in a growing world economy," he said, adding that politicians in the United States and Europe "believe that they are really burdening the taxpayers too much, and the taxpayers want to give less. It's not true. They want to give more."

I sent this email to Jan Egeland

You seem to be under the impression that the ONLY way that individuals can donate money to charities and disasters is if the government TAKES the money from them in the form of taxes and gives it to YOU.

Leaving aside the fact that the UN is the last place I want MY government to give money (see Oil for Food scandal), we don't need to be taxed into giving. The United States is a generous country and we WILL give a lot of money to this cause; we're just not going to give it to YOU to spend as you see fit.

The people who really need and deserve the money will get it, without you having the opportunity to cut your slice off of it.

Howlin @ FR

P.S. Forget about a UN and/or world tax; it's not going to happen.

Herr Egeland received one from me on behalf of the aussies who were insulted by his comments. I won't hold my breath waiting for a response.

Our Government gave $10 million.
TO AN AID ORGANIZATION. NOT TO THE UN!.

How dare you call the U.S. "stingy" you pathetic hypocrite.

The UN scammed hundreds of millions of dollars off the Oil for Food Program while simultaneously starving millions of Iraqi children.

The UN subsidized a murderous dictator and financed the terrorists who continue to kill American troops and Iraqi citizens.

Shame on you who have no shame.

Note: Jan, you ignorant slut, tax these UNOFF beneficiaries:

Sorry, Mr Egeland. Unfortunately the left wing inthis country has done it's level best to stamp out Christmas in the last few years and so , unfortunately , the "christmas spirit' that evokes so much generosity, has been sadly diminished as a result.

Deal with it..

does she think we're pikers, too?

She doesn't have good email from her parent's home in Norway, so I don't know. I'll be sure to bug her when school starts up again.

The interesting thing is that she has an aunt who immigrated to the states years ago and who is a Republican. She says talking to me is like talking to her aunt. I guess the only way to survive if you are a European w/any sense is to immigrate!

You got the same response that I did although my email was a bit nastier in that I suggested that the US use send its annual dues directly to disaster aid rather than to support the UN pimps. Told them that the UN could use the money from Food for Oil scam to make up the difference.

"Christmastime should remind many Western countries at least, [of] how rich we have become." Becoming rich is not a matter of fortune, but a result of hard-work, creativity and entrepreneurship.

But it is probably much harder to steal our private donations, thru faith organizations etc. They much prefer our government cash they can dip right into.

MY E-Mail to the media about the Washington Post cheap shot on Bush.

Aid Grows Amid Remarks About President's Absence

By John F. Harris and Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writers
Wednesday, December 29, 2004; Page A01

I find it incredible that the Washington Post would stoop to carrying water for an organization that pilfered at least 21 billion from the people of Iraq. The post needs to get on Americas side in these battles for moral high ground. The Post also needs to realize that the election is over and Bush still won. The people have spoken and reject their nonsensical bash America first. What a stinking cheap shot by a garbage newspaper.

These UN jerks need to call Michael Moore and Soros. They have plenty and I am sure they will be more than happy to give their precious UN whatever they need. Kerry could ask Teresa if she would like to chip in a little too.
