An unknown aircraft fired a missile on February 16, 2005 in a deserted area near the southern city of Dailam in the province of Bushehr where Iran has a nuclear power plant, Iranian state television said. 'A powerful explosion was heard this morning on the outskirts of Dailam in the Bushehr province. Witnesses said that the missile was fired from an unknown plane 12 miles from the city,' Iran's Arabic language Al-Alam said. (Reuters Graphic)

Key phrase is "could have been". My guess: Iran has been complaining of US surveilance flights over their territory, and have threated to shoot down any encroaching planes. Maybe an Iranian pilot got an itchy trigger finger, missed, and the stray missle headed down to the ground.

Latest Iranian TV spin (courtesy
Sky News -
An Interior Ministery spokesman said "friendly fire" may have been the cause. "We have no reason to say it's a hostile attack," he said.
"There is a big possibility that it was a friendly fire by mistake.
"Several such mistaken friendly fire has been reported there in recent days."
Iranian TV has been ALL OVER the map on this one.

Man, if they get that jittery when we drop an empty fuel tank on them, just wait till we start dropping 2000lb bunker busters. They may as well just put on their Depends now.

You can tell how much Iran has unravelled in the last decade by the fact that they will admit it.

unknown aircraft What if......
What if it looked a little like a bat and the reason it was unknown was because nothing showed up on radar?

I bet it was the same fuel tank that caused the spontaneous explosion of TWA Flight 800.
Them fuel tanks can be awfully mischievous.
To: Indy Pendance
Has to be an accident. Who would fire a missile at no particular target?

A fuel tank falls from the sky and explodes on a nuclear reactor? I hate it when that happens.
